In this lesson, we will focus on violent and nonviolent protest. We will explore protest laws in the UK, examine a case study of the London riots in 2011, Christian views about violent and nonviolent protest, Islamic views about violent and nonviolent protest.
Terrorism
In this lesson, we will focus on terrorism. We will explore terrorism as a form of violent protest, Christian and Islamic views on terrorism and how scripture can be misinterpreted to fit with terrorist ideology.
Reasons for war
In this lesson, we will focus on the reasons for war. We will explore greed, self-defence and retaliation as reasons for war and Christian and Islamic responses to reasons for war.
Just War Theory (Christianity)
In this lesson, we will focus on the Christian just war theory. We will explore Aquinas' just war theory and look at a case study: can wars be just? Falklands/WWII.
Just War Theory (Islam)
In this lesson, we will focus on the Islamic just war theory. We will explore Jihad and just war theory and Muslim attitudes to conduct in war.
Recap and practice
In this lesson, we will focus on recapping the content from the first six lessons in this unit. We will have a specific focus on answering examination questions from the unit, including different examination boards as much as possible.
Holy War
In this lesson, we will focus on holy war. We will explore the history of Holy War in Christianity (Crusades, warfare in the Old Testament) and Holy War in Islam with links to lesser jihad (example of the Battle of Badr).
Nuclear weapons and WMD's
In this lesson, we will focus on weapons of mass destruction. We will explore examples of WMDS and the use of nuclear weapons at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and WMDs in reference to Just War theory and lesser jihad.
Pacifism
In this lesson, we will focus on pacifism. We will explore pacifism in Christianity and pacifism in Islam with a focus on peace and self defence.
Responses to victims of war
In this lesson, we will focus on responses to victims of war. We will explore the effects of war (environmental, physical, emotional), Islamic and Christian teachings directed at helping victims of war and the work of charities (Islamic Relief, Christian Aid).
Revision
In this lesson, we will focus on reviewing some of the key topics from this unit. We will recap reasons for war, nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction and pacifism.
Exam practice
In this lesson, we will focus on applying the content from this unit to examination style questions. We will have a specific focus on answering examination questions from the unit, including different examination boards as much as possible.
Deliberate Practice
In this lesson, we will focus on recalling and memorising some key teachings and examples from this unit. We will revise key quotations and definitions from the unit and explore the meaning of them.
