Movement scavenger hunt

﻿Hi there. My name is Mr. Roberts and I'm going to be teaching you the block of PE for year three and this is going to be the unit of outdoor and adventurous activities. And in this lesson, we're going to be doing what's called a movement scavenger hunt. So, let's get ready and good luck everybody. In every single PE lesson, we need to know what the keywords are. Every lesson will have some words or some vocabulary that is related to the subject and in today's lesson, our keyword or our keywords, are self-reliance. And that's really important in PE 'cause it's our ability to make decisions ourselves and not have to rely too much on other people. Okay? So, in today's lesson, we're going to be explorers, but we're not going to be explorers who need things like binoculars, and a big coat, and a big hat, and a rucksack, and a tent, and all those sort of things. We're going to be exploring our local environment, our home living space, but we're going to be using our imagination and we're going to be starting to think about and we're going to start to see the things that we have around us, maybe in a slightly different way. So, what you're going to be doing is you're going to be given a list and that list will have a variety of things on it. Some of the things that you have to go and find will be things to do. And some of the things that you will have to find are genuinely things to find. So for example, you may have to go and find something to jump over. So, that's a doing thing. And you will go off and you'll explore and you'll have a look around your living space and you might find that you can just jump over a toy. You might be quite creative and you might jump over a bed, but you have to be sensible and you've got to be safe, but you're looking for things to jump over. You might also have to find things around your space which have a description. So, on the screen, you can see that I've written you have to find something squishy. So, someone gives me that challenge, I'm going to go and find some new squishy. So, off I go, and I'll see you back in a couple of seconds while I go and find something. Off I go. And I'm back and I found a squishy octopus. Just so happened to have one around the house. So, there's a variety of things for you to do, there's a variety of things for you to find. And it's a question of you being creative and you being imaginative about what you see and have around your living space. So, get yourselves ready. You will need to have a grownup or adult with you to help you with this challenge. And I'll see you in a couple minutes. So, pause the video, make sure you're ready. And when you're ready, come back to the video and we can carry on. Okay, so this lesson is like a treasure hunt or a scavenger hunt as I said, but it's a movement scavenger hunt. And the way it will work is I'm going to share with you a list of 15 items. Some of them are actions, so things to do. Some of them are things to find and the list will be available to you as either a printout so you can actually print out the worksheet which is like this. Or, I will share with you on the screen and what you'll be doing is you can just pause the screen at that point and then just copy the items down onto your sheets of paper. The challenge for you is to go to find, or go to do, all 15 items on the list. So, we've got a variety of things. So, you'll have to go and find things to climb, things that are rough, things that are noisy, things that you can jump over. And there's a variety of different things. And your challenge will be for in 30 minutes to go and see what you can find. And you may well do it on your own. You could maybe do it with a brother or sister or you can do it with an adult or the grownup, but your challenge will be to do all 15 items on the sheet that you have either the printed out version or the one that you've copied off the screen. So, pause the video, get ready for the next instruction and good luck. Okay, so you've got your list. Now, it could be the printed out version like mine or it could be the one that you're going to copy off the screen that's below where I'm talking at the moment. So, when I finish talking in a minute, please just pause the screen and copy off all 15 items that you are expected to do as part of this movement scavenger hunt. Some are actions, so things that you must do and some are things that you must find and the word is described to you. So, it may well be that you've got to find something soft, something noisy, something squishy, or you're going to have to go and do things like you must find something to jump over, something to walk across, or whatever. So, the challenge for you is to go off and you've got 30 minutes and you can go with a partner and that partner could be a brother or sister or it could be with a grownup, but you've got to go off and find all 15 of those things on the movement scavenger hunt and tick them off as you're going and once you've got all 15, please come back to the video and then we can talk about how you've got on. So, pause the video now. If necessary, copy them down or ask someone else to copy them for you and get yourself ready and have fun, be imaginative, and let's see what you can find out there. Okay. Good luck. Right, so you've got your sheet of paper with the list of items on it. And the way we can do this is we can make it easy or we can make it hard or we can build it up as we become more confident. So, the first challenge is just to get used to it could be that your partner or the adult who's working with you might just give you one of the items off the list. So for example, the first item I've got on my list is something to climb. So, that's a doing skill. So, then will say, okay, I want you to go and find something to climb and you may go with them and you're going to go and explore your environment. And when you find something to climb that means you've succeeded and you've got that challenge and you can go back to the start and then you can find another task. And they might then say, okay, I want you to go and find something that you can play catch with and you'll wonder off and you'll find something, you might find a ball. You might find a toy that you can throw and catch, but you've got to be creative and you've got to be imaginative. So, that's the one way you can do it where you do one of the items at a time. The second way you could do this is you could maybe have two or three items. So, your partner or the grownup that's with you may say to you, "Okay, I want you to go and do these two things." And you got to remember what they were. So they might say, "I want you to go and find something that's soft. And I want you to go and find something that you can walk across." So, you've got to go and find those things. Something soft, that could be a toy, a cuddly toy like my octopus or it could be something to walk across as well. So, it could be that you can walk across the carpet, but you've got to be imaginative about how you interpret or how you think about responding to these challenges. And the third way you can do this is you could take the entire sheet and work your way around until you've done all of those challenges. Okay? And I think there are 15 challenges on the sheet and you tick them off as you're going around, the way that you would do with a normal scavenger hunt. So be creative, be imaginative. And when you're ready and you've got the sheet in front of you and you're good to go, please pause the video and be ready for the next instruction. Okay, so I've explained how to do it. You've got to be creative. You have to be imaginative. You've got your partner with you. You've got the list and you can see the list on the screen. And you've got your printout of the list. I'm going to give you 30 minutes. That's half an hour to go off and see if you can get all of those 16 things on the sheet of paper ticked off. Pause the video, go and see if you can find all 16, and then come back and then we can discuss how you've got on and what you could do next. Okay. Good luck. Be sensible, be safe, and use your imagination. That's the most important thing, be creative. Off you go. Excellent stuff. So, well done. You've done your scavenger hunt. You've been around your living space and you've been really creative and you've been really imaginative and maybe you started to see things in a slightly different way. So, I've got some questions for you to discuss with your partner. So, the first question is, if you had to do it again, would you have done it in a slightly different way? Okay? Would you approach it in a slightly different way? The second question is, were there some things which were hardest to find or some things which are really hard to do? Okay? So, did some of them challenge you more than others? Were some really easy? And my final question for you is, can you think of any other challenges that I didn't have on my list that you would add? So, if you had to make up that scavenger hunt for somebody else to do, is there anything you would add in yourselves? Okay? So, well done. What you could do now is you've done this in your living space probably, or possibly inside, if the weather's good and you've got an environment to work in, a sort of garden, maybe take it outside, go see if you can do it outside in your garden or maybe going a little bit further, but you must have an adult with you. So, could you take your movement scavenger hunt into your local environment, around your village, or around your community? Well done everybody. And I look forward to seeing you in the next lesson. Pillowcase challenge

﻿Hi, it's Mr. Roberts again, and this is lesson two of the year three Outdoor and Adventures Activities unit as part of the year three PE unit. And the lesson today is called the pillowcase challenge. And this is a interesting game, which is going to test you with regard to maybe getting you to solve some problems and to get you to communicate with a partner. So get yourselves ready and good luck. Right, so like all PE lessons, we need to have some equipment. And we've got four categories of equipment that we need to have in today's lesson. The first thing is we need to have 16 unique objects. And as you can see on the screen, I've given you some ideas of the sorts of things you can go out and collect. But the key thing is you've got to have 16 things and they must all be different. So you can't have two of anything. And as you can see on my list, you've got a range of things from a ball to a button to a paperclip. You've got a spoon. You've got some toys. You've got all sorts. So that's 16 items. And they've got to be fairly small because they've got to fit inside a pillowcase. And I'll explain all that later in the lesson. You need to have some paper. And I've suggested that you need to have several sheets of paper. And you need to have some scissors. Now when we're using scissors and when we're cutting, you must have an adult with you to supervise you and to help you. And you need to have a pillowcase. And I've actually put two pillowcases on because we might have an opportunity to use two pillowcases in this lesson. So they're the items you need. 16 unique items. They must be small. You must be able to hold them in one hand. And you must have some paper. You must have some scissors. And you must have two pillowcases. Pause the video, go and find all those items. And when you've got them, please come back and get ready for the next part of the lesson. Okay, in all of our PE lessons, we need to learn some key words or what we call the vocabulary. And I've got two key phrases that I want you to remember from today's lesson. The first one is what you're really going to be working on, and that's your fine motor skills. And that's being able to use the movements of your fingers and your thumbs and your hands to feel things, and to sense things, and to recognise things, and to manipulate things, and move things around just using the muscles of your hands, your fingers, and your thumbs. And the second keyword is communication. And that is where you can give information to someone and you can take information from someone. Okay? So they are our keywords in today's lesson. Okay, so we're ready to get on with this activity. And I'm going to talk you through very slowly and I'm going to explain as clear as I can what you have to do. So the first thing you must do is you get your 16 items. And for every item, you're going to write the name of that onto a sheet of paper. The way we're going to do is we get one sheet of paper and we must cut it into 16 equal sized pieces. So that's where we need to get an adult to help us with our cutting using the scissors. So for example, I have got a piece of LEGO, and I have written LEGO onto my sheet of paper, okay? So that's one. I've got hairbrush written down because I've got a hairbrush. So I've got 16 items and 16 pieces of paper, and you must write down the names of those items onto a piece of paper. Once you've done that, you must put them into a pillowcase. And I've got my pillowcase already, okay? So I've got my hairbrush. I must put it into the pillowcase. I've got my piece of LEGO. I put it into the pillowcase. In my case, I found myself a golf ball. I put it into the pillowcase. And I keep going until I've got all of my items and I've put them in. So I've got all sorts of varying sizes and varying textures. So I've got big items. I've got little items, such as a marble. I've got even a small toy dinosaur with all sorts of strange textures and pointy bits on it. So I've got all sorts of things that go into my pillowcase. Now it's really important from a safety point of view, you must not have anything that's sharp in there. So please do not put anything which is, so for example, a knife. Please do not put a knife in there. Please do not use a safety pin or a drawing pin. It must be things which are not sharp. So you put all of your 16 items into a pillowcase and you must make sure that every item has its own piece of paper. So I have a paperclip, and there's my paperclip piece of paper. So pause the video, go and put all of your items in the pillowcase, but make sure that you've written down every item onto its own little piece of paper, okay? Come back when you've done that. Okay, so you've got your 16 pieces of paper. The next thing you must do is you must turn all of those pieces of paper over and put them onto the table so you can't actually see what is written on the sheet of paper, okay? And as you can see it on the photograph which is now showing on the screen, that's exactly how I've done it. But what I've done just to show you what I mean, I've left two the right way up, and I'll turn those over in a minute. So in the top left-hand corner, it says paperclip. And then there's another one underneath which says LEGO. So once the game starts, I will make sure they're turned over as well. So you must have your 16 sheets of paper, all in a big square, and they're all the wrong way up, so they're blank. And the way the activity works, you can work on your own to start off with, and you're going to take a piece of paper. And so for example, I will turn my piece of paper over now, and I've got hairbrush. So what I must now do is I must go into my pillowcase like that, and I must reach around, and using one hand, I'm not allowed to look until I can feel, and I certainly found the hairbrush, okay? That's the challenge. I put that to one side. I then take the next piece of paper. And the next piece of paper, let's see what I've got. And it says, LEGO. So I will now put my hand into the pillowcase, and I'll reach around, and that doesn't feel like a LEGO. That feels like a golf ball. Mm, what's that one? Mm, that's a dinosaur. I don't want a dinosaur. There it is. There's a piece of LEGO, okay? And what I must do is I keep going until I've done all 16 pieces of paper. So I'm only allowed to use one hand. The other hand is holding the pillow case. And I will use my hands, and this is the fine motor skills. I'm feeling, and I'm using my fingers and my thumbs to feel and get used to what the sensation of those items is, okay? So what I'd like you to do is pause the video, and go and see how long it takes you to find all 16 items just using the sense of touch. Have a go, and then put all the items back in the bag, in the pillowcase, turn the piece of paper over, and have another go. And when you've done it three times, come back to the video and I'm going to give you some ideas on how we can make this more interesting and how we can involve someone else and we can get our communication skills involved in our activity, okay? So pause the video, go and have a go, and come back when you're ready. Excellent. How did you get on? So that's quite an interesting game, isn't it? And it must be quite frustrating at times because I find it quite frustrating that I can't look into the pillowcase to see what I'm looking for. So I have to rely on touch and my fine motor skills which is what I described to you at the start of the lesson. So I'm using my fingers and my thumbs and the muscles of my hands to feel and sense the textures of what I'm looking for until I find what it is. Now we can make this a little bit more interesting or a little more challenging. So we've got to put some variations on this activity. The first way you could change it is maybe as you're doing it, you have to describe your partner what you can feel. And this is quite useful because I said to you at the start one of my key words is communication. You need to be able to describe what's around you, you must be able to describe your environment, and you must be able to describe things close to you as well. So I put my hand into the pillowcase and I'm looking, for example, the golf ball is what I'm looking for, but I'm describing, okay, that's strange. That's something soft and that's squishy, okay? That's not a golf ball, okay? That's also soft. That's hard. That's sharp. Mm, that feels like a ruler. That's not what I want. There it is. I found the golf ball. It's a hard ball. It's got a pimply surface. Yep, that's definitely the golf ball, and I found it. So I described to my partner what I'm looking for. So the next thing you could do is you could take turns. So you've got your 16 sheets of paper, all the wrong way up. So we have eight goes each and we have a competition. So my partner turns it over. He or she finds out that they've got to look for, for example, a piece of LEGO, and off they go. They try and find the piece of Lego. When they find it, you take that sheet of paper away. And then my go, and there's now only 15 items. And we keep going until there's nothing left in the pillowcase. The third way we could do, this is using our weaker hand because it's really important now that we actually have two hands almost as good as each other. So I'm right-handed, but actually, I'm going to try it with my left hand and see how that is. And I'm still going to describe what I'm looking for, but I'd be interested to know whether you find it as easy with your weaker hand as with your more dominant hand. And the last way you could vary this is to maybe have two pillow cases with identical items in it. So you found 16 items. Maybe if you're lucky enough, you had 16 items times two. And every item in pillowcase one is replicated or is the same in pillowcase two. So we can make a competition. So my partner and I, one of us will turn the sheets of paper over, and it says, for example, hairbrush, and it's a competition to see who can find that hairbrush first of all. And we keep going until we've got nothing left in our two pillowcases. So there's four variations on that pillowcase challenge. What I would like you to do is pause the video, and go and have a play. See how you get on. Try all four variations, and come back when you're ready. So you've got plenty of time. Try each one two or three times. And when you're ready, come back to the video, and we can discuss how you've got on. Well done, and good luck. Excellent stuff. How did you get on? I think I found that really interesting to finding that some things were really much harder to feel and much harder to recognise than others. So when I was looking in my pillowcase or feeling into my pillowcase, it was easy to find the piece of LEGO because it's got a really interesting, very rough surface and a smooth surface. But there's other things which it was harder to find. So for example, I found I was looking for a marble, but I pulled out a pebble. Strange. Similar texture but different size and different weight. So how did you get on? Did you find that some items were much more difficult to recognise than others? Did you find it easy describing what you're looking for? Did you have the right words? Okay? So well done. An interesting activity, but it gets you thinking, okay? So pause the video, have a break, and I look forward to seeing you in the next lesson. Well done, everybody.

In this lesson, we will try to respond to some problems at the virtual river.

Down by the river

﻿Hi there, It's Mr. Roberts again, and this is lesson three of our outdoor and adventurous activities unit as part of the Year Three PE curriculum. And the theme of today's lesson is called down by the river. And it's going to be a series of challenges to get you thinking about what you'd do if things weren't going as well as you had hoped. Okay, let's get ourselves ready and good luck and stay safe, everybody. Okay, so like most PE lessons we're going to need some equipment. And for today's lesson we've got three things that we need to get hold of. The first thing is we need to have eight unique objects. And as you can see on the screen I've got a variety of examples of the sorts of things that you must be able to find around your living space. So we've got a ball, we've got a couple of toys we've got a Rubik's cube, just a variety of things. They need to be small, easily handled but you need to find eight unique objects. That means every single object has got to be different to the others. So you can't have things which are the same. So things of different sizes and different weights but you need eight. You also need two skipping ropes or dressing gown ropes or whatever it might be, but you need two ropes. And you need two cushions or two pillows. So, what I would like you to do is pause the video, go and see if you can find all of those things. Eight items, two ropes, and two pillows or two cushions. And when you've found those items, come back to the video and we can get on with the lesson. Okay, off you go. Right, so, as with all of our lessons we've got some vocabulary we must learn which is related to the theme of the subject of the lesson. And in today's lesson, the theme or the subject is about the word resilience. Resilience is being able to respond when things don't go as well as we'd hope, okay? That's the key word of today's lesson. Okay, so in today's lesson, we've got to try and set up an imaginary river or a virtual river. And the way we do this is that you need to go find the two ropes which I said you needed to get or the two dressing gown ropes but we need two things to put down as the sides of our river. And the river itself needs to be as wide as you can make it in the room that you're working in. So I would hope that you've probably got enough space to make it maybe two strides or two metres across. Maybe even bigger if you've got a big enough room. So you're going to create yourselves a virtual river. And in that river, you're going to put your eight items and you can spread them out So they're dotted around across the whole of the river rather than altogether in one small area. So that's how you're going to set it up, okay? So, what I'd like you to do is go and set up your river and then put your eight items in the middle of this imaginary river. When you've done that, come back to the video. So pause it, go and set it up and then come back and wait for your instructions. Okay, so the first activity we're going to do is called river rescue. And what you're going to do is you're going to try and rescue those eight items from inside or within your virtual river. And as you can see, there's a photograph of a little girl actually starting this activity. So she's set up the river using two skipping ropes and she's put her toys around in that virtual river. But what I want you to imagine is that river has got we'll say piranhas or it's shark infested or it's got alligators or whatever, but you can't touch the surface of the ground inside those ropes because you're going to get bitten. So, what are you going to try and do is see if you can retrieve or see if you can get back or see if you can rescue all of the toys or all of the items that are in your river. But you're not allowed to touch the ground around them. I'm going to see how you get on, see if he can rescue them all and when you've done it, come back to the video. So pause it, go and have a go, come back to the video and start again. If you want to do it more than once two or three times, that's fine. Have a go and make it interesting. Be creative. Okay, off you go. Okay, so, you've had to go, how did you get on? Was it easy or was it hard? So, the next thing we can do is let's see if we can make it a little bit more interesting to get us thinking, to test our resilience. So, the first thing that you could do is let's see if we can actually make the river a little bit wider. To make it even more challenge to reach those toys that are on the other side near the bank on the other side of the river or stuck in the middle in the deepest bit. Or let's see if we can use anything else that we've got around the house to help us. So, for example, the little girl in the photograph she's using the roll from the inside of some wrapping paper. But it doesn't have to be something solid, it could be another skipping rope. There's loads of things you could do, loads of things you could find around your living space to help you rescue those toys. But just remember you cannot touch the ground or the water in your river because it's got things in there that will bite you, okay? So pause the video, go and see if you can find something to help you rescue your toys. And come back when you've done it successfully, off you go. Right, so you've rescued all of your toys from this river. So now we need to get across it from one side to the other. So this activity is called river crossing. And what you've got, you've got two things to help you, that is two pillows or two cushions. So what I want you to do is see if you can work out how are you going to get across from the other side or to the other side and you can only use your pillows or your cushions. Okay? That's your challenge. Have a think about it. Pause the video, have it go and experiment, but come back to the video and then I can give you some top tips on how you might be able to do this properly. Okay, so you think you've worked out the way you're going to get across this river using those two cushions to help you. So, the way I would do it is, if holding your two cushions, place one in the water in the river and then you stand on it. And then you place the other one just in front of you for you to step on. Don't throw it, don't drop it, you need to make it sure it's very close to you so that you can reach it. And then you step onto that one and then you pick up the one that you were just standing on and then you repeat that process. So you pass it around in front of you put it down on the ground in front of you, step onto that one, and you keep this going until you reach the other side of the river. And what I'm going to show you is a little girl who's showing you how to do this. Watch it carefully and how she does it and then you can go off and practise that and see how you get on. So pause the video and when you're ready come back and we can think of, we can come up with some new challenges to make it even more interesting. Okay, off you go. Right, well done. So you've managed to cross from one side of the river to the other. So now let's see if we can come up with some more challenging things to get you working really hard because you're a really resilient little explorer. So, the first thing you can do is how about carrying a toy with you? Take a teddy. So you're getting across the river, you've got your two cushions and you're going to carry a toy. A Teddy bear or a cuddly toy or something, okay? The next one is, you've done that successfully, how about taking two toys? You've got two toys and two cushions. Let's see if you can get from one side to the other, okay? If you do that successfully then next thing you could do, how about seeing if you can balance something on your head? How about putting a cuddly toy on your head? A small one, obviously. Something soft and squishy. Put it on head, see if you can balance it on your head as you go from one side of the river to the other. If you drop any of these things you've got to go back and start again, okay? So, pause the video and see if he can make it more interesting by carrying a passenger. One toy, two toys, or even a third toy on your head. Good luck, stay safe and stay dry. Okay, so let's make it even harder still. This time what you're going to do is you're going to work with a partner, okay? So you've got two of you but you've only got the two cushions. And you've got to see if you can work your way across from one side of the river to the other together. So this is where you need to communicate, talk to each other, plan it, and you must be trusting of each other as you do this. So you' re working from one side of the river to the other, but there's two of you and you've got two cushions. Think about how you're going to do that. The other thing you can do is just make the river wider if you can, if you've got the space. Or see if you can get from one side to the other, and then you're going to make your way back to where you started from. So what I'm going to show you is a video of two children. One is clearly a little bit older than the other and therefore a little bit bigger and probably takes up a bit more space on those cushions and watch how they've worked together to get from one side of their river to the other. When you've seen the video of them working and being successful, pause it and you're go and have a practise. See if you can do it with your partner. Whether you can do it with a maybe it's a brother or a sister, or maybe with one of the adults that's working with you. Good luck, stay safe, trust each other and I'll see you in a few minutes after you've done this. So pause the video and come back when you've been really successful. Excellent, well done everybody. So, you've been successful in rescuing all your toys from that river which was full of these things that were going to eat you and bite you and everything else. And you also then were able to cross the river and you only had available to you were two cushions. And you've crossed that river with a partner as well. So, I've got two questions for you. So the first question is, what was the most challenging thing for you in this lesson? Okay? What made it challenging? And how did you get over that challenge? How did you solve the question? And the next question for you to think about or for you to talk about with your partner is, when did you realise that you had come up with the best solution? Did you sometime maybe go back and have another go and work out if the way you did it first of all was the best way? Or maybe there was a better way of doing it. But you've done really, really well today. And the key thing is you showed resilience. Resilience is that ability that you have to deal with things when they're not going well, okay? Your ability to bounce back and show that nothing is ever going to beat you. Well done, everybody. Den building

﻿Hi there, it's Mr. Roberts again, and this is the final one, our fourth lesson in the outdoor and adventurous activities unit of the year three PE curriculum. And the theme of today's lesson is den building, okay? So it should be really good fun, it'll really get you thinking and I'm looking forward to helping you and I'm looking forward to you having a really successful lesson. Okay, let's get ourselves ready. Okay, so I told you that today's lesson is all about den building. So we need to be thinking about what equipment, what things have we got around our living space that we could use to build a den or a shelter? And on the screen I've given you some ideas of the sorts of things that you could use. The sort of everyday things that you'll have hopefully around your living space. So for example, we've got a sofa or a couch. You've got a table and I given the example of cardboard boxes. I've put an example of a broom or a brush. You've got a rope, you've got a rug or a blanket. You've got cushions and you have a bed. What I want you to think about is what have you got around your house that you can build a shelter with? And you will probably have loads of other things that are not on my list. Okay, but there's some examples of the sorts of things you could build a shelter with. So I'm going to give you some time. So I'm going to say pause the video, and I want you to go off and see if you can find a variety of things that you can use to build a shelter with in your own living space. Okay, and I'll see you in a couple of minutes. Okay, like in every PE lesson, we have to have a keyword. We've got to know the vocabulary and the keywords that apply to our subject. And in today's lesson the keyword is resourceful, and resourceful is where you can use your own quick and clever solutions to respond to a challenge. So you become really good at using the resources around you to deal with the situation that you're in. Okay, and today's lesson will give you lots of practise in doing just that, okay? Okay, we've got some really bad news, there's a really bad storm coming. And what you've got to do is you've got to react to that storm. Now I've got my coat on, I've got my scarf, I've got my hat, but that's not going to be good enough. I need to build shelter quickly for me and my explorer friends, my intrepid little gang of explorers. We've got to get ourselves into cover to protect ourselves from this storm. So that is going to be the theme of today's lesson. Can you build a shelter to protect yourself from the storm that's coming, okay? So get yourselves ready. Pause the video and get yourself an adult to help you and let's get on with it. Okay, so we know we're going to have to build this shelter. We've got the storm coming, we need to get ourselves ready. So I asked you to think about what equipment, what resources have you got around your living space that you can use to build yourself a shelter, to protect yourself from this big storm that's coming our way? So the sorts of things I've got, the sort of the things that I've suggested on my screen, as you can see below my face at the moment, you've got a sofa, you've got a table. I've suggested using a brush or a broom. You got boxes. How about ropes? You could use ropes to tie things down. You could use a blanket and then you can maybe use cushions. You got a bed. There's loads of things you can use but you must ensure that whatever you use, it's got to be safe. Okay, so anything you use has got to be safe and it's got to be secure, 'cause the last thing we need is something tumbling down, falling on you or on someone else, okay? So have a think about what equipment you've got. I've given you my list to give you some ideas and go and see if you can gather up some equipment to build this shelter that's going to get you safe from this really big storm that's coming our way. Okay, so pause the video, go off and find some equipment, and when you're ready, come back to the video. I'm going to share some top tips that you can use to help you build this shelter. Okay, off you go. Excellent, so you've gone off and you've found some resources that you can use to build that shelter, okay? Now, before we carry on and start building, building this den that's going to make you safe and secure, and dry and protected from this really nasty, horrible storm that's coming our way, I want to share with you some top tips to think about to help you be really successful in your shelter. Okay, so the first thing is, think about seats becoming walls, okay? You want to have strong, solid walls. Okay, so if you've got chairs or a sofa or anything solid, could that be the wall to save you having to build your own wall? Use walls that are already there. The second thing, what about tabletops? Could that be the roof of your shelter? Could you do something under a table? That would protect us from the storm, wouldn't it? The next thing, if you haven't got a table that you could use, what could you use as your roof? What could you use to hold up a potential blanket or something, or a towel that you might use as the walls or the roof of your shelter? And I've suggested maybe using a broom, something solid, a stick of some sort could be the thing that holds your roof up, okay? So that's something to start off with. But you might not have something solid like that. So the other thing you can use to hold up the roof of this shelter is, how about using some rope? A skipping rope or a washing line or something like that. But whatever you use, we've got to make sure it's safe and it's secure, and you're not going to tie it onto something which is going to move or topple over. So it's really important that you have a grown-up helping you build your den or your shelter, okay? Now, yes, we've got this nasty storm coming and I really don't want to get cold. I don't want to get wet and I don't want you to get cold and wet in this nasty storm, but you've also got have a little bit of luxury in your shelter. So how about using some cushions? Okay, have a blanket in there, it's really , now snuggle up and get really warm in your shelter, okay? So make sure you've got all the equipment. Take into account those top tips. Make sure you've got a grown-up to help you, okay? And pause the video. And let's just have a think about it, start planning what you're going to do, because planning is really important and it will really help your resourcefulness which we discussed is the keyword in today's lesson. Okay, so you've got your stuff, you've got your resources, you're ready to go. And I just heard that storm is coming and that storm is much worse than we thought it was going to be. So it's time to get building before that storm hits us. So off you go, pause the video, and go and build yourself a shelter or a den. Now what I'd like you to do when you've built it, maybe take some photographs of it and you could share them with Oak on the Oak social media platforms which I'm going to share with you at the end of this lesson, because you've made a really good shelter, you need to be proud of the shelter you're going to build, and it's really important to show the rest of the world how clever you are and how resourceful you are. So pause the video, off you go and get building to get yourself safe from this really horrible storm that's coming our way, off you go. Excellent, well done. Now, as you can see, the storm has passed. I've been able to take my coat off, my hat's gone, my scarfs gone and I can relax. I'm dry and I'm safe and I'm secure. So how did you get on, how was your, how good was your shelter? Would it have protected you from this nasty storm? Okay, so I've got one question for you to think about. Now, bearing in mind, the keyword of today's lesson was resourceful. I want you to talk about and have a think about what would you have done differently if you had that challenge coming your way again? Okay, so if there's another storm coming would you do anything differently or do you think you did it as well as it's possible to do it? Think about it, talk to your partner. Well done, you've done really well in our four lessons of outdoor and adventurous activities. And I want you to stay safe. I want you to stay dry. And I think it'd be really good to say, when the weather's good and the world is ready take some of these ideas outside. Build your den in the garden if you've got a garden, or go and build a den in some local woods, but you must have a grown-up with you when you do this.
