In this lesson, we will focus on what prejudice and discrimination are, looking at examples and considering Christian and Islamic views on this. This lesson contains reference to sexuality, sex and prejudice and discrimination based on these.
Prejudice and discrimination based on disability
In this lesson, we will focus on prejudice and discrimination based on disability. We will be looking at the case study of screening for Down's Syndrome which is a controversial topic and links to the topic of abortion.
Prejudice and discrimination based on race
In this lesson, we will focus on prejudice and discrimination based on race. We will be looking at examples of prejudice and discrimination based on race, as well as a case study of the murder of Anthony Walker.
Religious freedom and censorship
In this lesson, we will focus on religious freedom and censorship. We will explore religious freedom in the UK, Christian and Islamic teachings on freedom of religion and censorship.
Recap and practice
In this lesson, we will focus on reviewing the first five lessons in the unit. We will try some examination style questions and return to the key concepts.
The role of Women in Christianity
In this lesson, we will focus on the roles of women within Christianity in the lesson today. We will explore Christian views on the roles of women, issues surrounding female ordination and a case study of Libby Lane.
The role of Women in Islam
In this lesson, we will focus on the roles of women within Islam in the lesson today. We will explore Islamic views on the roles of women, women and worship, treatment of women and use of hijab (impact of culture).
Poverty and its causes
In this lesson, we will focus on poverty and its causes in the lesson today. We will look at the problem of poverty, responsibility of those living in poverty, the exploitation situation in Britain, fair pay and people trafficking.
Giving money to the poor
In this lesson, we will focus on giving money to the poor. We will explore giving aid (long and short term), charity (tithe in Christianity, Zakah and Khums in Islam) and charities that help the poor (Muslim Hands, Christian Aid).
Attitudes to wealth
In this lesson, we will focus on attitudes to wealth in Christianity and Islam. We will explore Christian teachings on wealth (Old and New Testament). Islamic teachings on wealth, the use of wealth, interest on loans in Islam and attitudes to gambling.
Revision
In this lesson, we will focus on revising key content from across the unit in the lesson. We will revise religious freedom and censorship, status of women in Christianity and Islam, poverty and human trafficking and giving money to the poor.
Examination practice
In this lesson, we will focus on completing examination style questions in the lesson. We will have a specific focus on answering examination questions from the unit, including different examination boards as much as possible.
Deliberate Practice
In this lesson, we will focus on deliberate practice of key words and quotations in this lesson. We will practise giving specific explanations of the meaning of key words and the meaning of quotations.
