In this lesson, you will learn about communities. You will identify the different groups people belong to, and identify the ones you belong to. You will draw a picture of yourself belonging to the different communities.

My caring community

﻿- Hi, and welcome to today's lesson about my caring community. My name's Miss Waka and I'm going to be your teacher. Our learning objective today is to know that I belong to a caring community. Hi, there. My name's Miss Waka and I'm going to be your teacher today. What's your name? Oh, hi. In this lesson, you will need your looking eyes, your listening ears, some paper and some different coloured pencil. Today, we will be learning about the community we belong to. But what does the word community mean? Shall we try saying community? Say it to the ceiling, community. Say it to the floor, community. Shout it out loud, community. Whisper it, community. Community, it means belonging to a group. You belong to lots of groups. Shall we see what kinds of groups people belong to? Do you go to a big school? Yes, you do, don't you? Do you go swimming? You go to swimming lessons, so you're part of the swimming community. Do you go to football? Are you part of a football group? Are you a part of a football team? Yes, you are a football community, aren't you? Do you go to the scouts? Are you part of the scouts group? Wow, so you're part of the scouts community. Do you go to mosque? You may go to a different place of worship. To make your picture, you will need your paper and some colours. I belong to three different communities, so I am going to fold my page into three. It doesn't matter if this is not equal, as long as you can see three sections. There we have it. One, two, three. The first place I belong to is the school I work at because I am a teacher. So, I'm going to draw my school. Take your time. I know I'm rushing this just to show you, but you can make it beautiful and colourful. And I belong to a school. School. School. The next place I belong to, the community group I belong to, is a netball group. Every Wednesday night, I go to play netball. This is the hoop that we shoot the ball in. Netball. Then, during the week, Monday to Friday, I go to mosque in the evenings. A mosque is a place of worship. Do you go to a place of worship? This is my dome and I will draw the word mosque. Mosque. Mosque. This is my picture. Task today is to draw yourself belonging to different communities. First, think about the different communities that you belong to. Next, split your page by folding it. In this lesson you will learn about the people in our community who are heroes. Yes, firemen and nurses are heroes, but we will also explore the work bin men and women, and retail workers, carry out too. You will be identifying our community heroes, and listing and talking about their roles.

﻿- Next up, Community Heroes. Hi, I'm Miss Wacker. And today our learning objective is to identify heroes in the community. What is a community? Community. Comm u ni ty. Can you can say community? Comm u ni ty. Community. Say it to your shoulder. Community. Say it to the ceiling. Comm u ni ty. Comm u ni ty. Community. Community is belonging to something, to a part of something, to be a part of something. Do you belong to a community? Belonging, a community is belonging. Tell your Teddy what community means. Community means belonging. You do it. Yes. A community means belonging. So you may go to big school. You are part of that big school community. Which big school do you go to? Do know the name of it? Oh wow, I've heard of some of those schools. Well done. In this lesson, you'll need your looking eyes, your listening ears, some paper, and a pencil. Do you know who this is? Yes, it's Superman. And this one? Batgirl. Spiderman, well done. But what superpower does Superman have? Yeah, he can fly. And Spiderman, what can he do? Yes, he throws webs. Can you throw webs? They're not coming out, but why? That's right, because I'm not a superhero. I am a human, but humans are heroes. They may not be superheroes, but they are heroes. We have heroes that live in our community. We call them community heroes. Remember the word community. Community means belonging and a hero, heroes are strong, but heroes are kind and they are respected in our community in where we belong. We have people that are kind, respectful, and helpful. Shall we have a look at some of our heroes in our community? What are community workers? We have a variety of community workers. Lots of people that work in different places, doing different things. We have the refuse collectors up here in the green van. What do they do? Yeah, they collect our bins. Then we have a shopkeeper over here as well. What does she do? She sells things and she gives things to the customer. But what's that picture of, the one that we've not looked at? It's a builder, yes. And what do builders do? They build houses or even walls. Should we see some of the community workers and the work that they do?

- Hello, I'm the business manager at a primary school. And I make sure that the building is safe for you every day. I also make sure that you have the money to spend in the right places to make sure you have all the pencils and equipment that you need to do your work in school.

- I work at the hospital for the NHS.

- Hi, I work in a shop and I help customers.

- I'm an electrician. I'm fixing a switch.

- I hope you enjoyed learning about our different community workers. They are our community heroes because without them, we wouldn't be able to get much done. They are very kind and respected and helpful with all the work that they do. We are going to list our community workers. So we have a refuse collector. So people that collect our bin, refuse collector. Then we have a shopkeeper, sh op kee per. Shopkeeper. Then I'm going to choose, oh, what about a teacher? Are they community helpers? Are they community heroes? Of course they are. They help children learn, teacher. T ea cher, teacher. Now I'm going to choose one of these to talk about with my adult, my parent or carer. I wonder if you can guess who it is. Someone who collects the bins every week, and empties them. You're right. It's the refuses collector. Well done. Your test today is to list the community heroes and talk about their role. First, list a at least three community workers. Next, take your list to a parent or a carer. ﻿- Next up wider world. Hi, I'm Miss Waka. And today our learning objective is to know that I am part of a community. Hi, my name is Miss Waka, what's your name? Oh, hi. I'm going to be your teacher today. In this lesson, you will need your looking eyes, your listening ears, some paper, a pencil, scissors and glue stick. But remember, scissors are sharp. So always have an adult to help. What is this? This is the planet we live on. It is called Earth. Can you say Earth? Earth, well done. Today we will be learning about the wider world. We all belong to one world, but where in the world do you live? We all belong to the earth. So today we are going to be creating a circle of belonging because we all belong. To create your belonging circle you will need, some coloured paper, your scissors, some string, some coloured pencils or felt tip pens, and a glue stick. First, you need to cut some strips of paper like this, but remember, scissors are sharp. Always have an adult to supervise. Then you need to create your belonging circle. So where do we belong? Where do I belong? What is my address? My address is three Tinsel Farm. Three, the number three, Tinsel Farm. Now remember because it is the name of a street, it needs a capital letter. Farm, capital F, ar the diagraph ar, m. Three Tinsel Farm. I'm then going to glue that and loop it together to make the first part of my belonging circle. My next colour. Where is three Tinsel Farm? It is in a town called Lapland. You might be in a city, like London. So capital L Lapland. Again, I'm going to glue it together. Another one. So three Tinsel Farm, Lapland. Where is Lapland? It is part of England, England, capital E. It might be India, but where in England? Remember your capital letter at the beginning of these because they are the names of things. Again, loop that together. So where is England? England is part of the United Kingdom. And the United Kingdom is an island on the world, on the Earth. So I'm going to write Earth. Earth. Capital E. You could create one that says United Kingdom if you want to. Glue that together, loop it together. And now it's the fun part. To loop it through your string. So three Tinsel Farm, Lapland, England, on the earth. My belonging circle, also known as an necklace. Your task today is to create a belonging circle, a bit like a necklace. First, get a strip of paper and write your name on it. Next on each strip of paper write a group that you belong to. Loop it together.
