BU Independent Living

﻿Hi. My name is Roseanna and I'm a subject lead for Independent Living. Here's a short video to introduce the subject area and share how you can use our resources. Firstly, these are the incredible teachers who have worked so hard and have been so creative to put these lessons together. So there are six units in Independent Living subject area: Home Management, Personal Care, Daily Living Skills, Community Living, World of Work and Staying Safe. You'll find that the lessons have been developed under two main stages: Building Understanding and Applying Learning. Building Understanding lessons aimed at those learners who are developing their independence within daily living activities and have tasks which are broken down into sequences and manageable steps. These are lessons that also directed at learners who are developing their matching, sorting and organisation skills. At the Applying Learning stage, these lessons are directed towards learners who are applying the knowledge on independence in daily activities to a wider context or environment. So generalising their skills. We've also developed for sensory stories which will sit within the Early Development subject area. Now, for each of the six units, there are six lessons within it. The lessons are all slide packs, which have teacher direction in the notes section and are downloadable so that you can send home to parents or use in your schools. Here is an example of one of the slides with the teacher notes section. Here, you'll find discussion points and activities and learning guides. At the end of each lesson, you'll find a signposting page with links to further learning with Oak National. And these are lessons that you can use as followup lessons to help consolidate skills learned. So finally, a huge thank you from the Independent Living Team.
