BU Creative Arts

﻿Hello and welcome to the Creative Arts Specialist Offer here at the Oak National Academy. My name is Matt Rooney and I've been working with a team of teachers to pull together some lessons and learning opportunities to share with you. Our lessons will look at art, drama, dance, and music, and have been designed to work hand in hand with all that you're doing with your learners. Enjoy the lessons. We can't wait to hear your feedback. Here are the Creative Arts teaching team. Music, Dance, Drama, and Art are delivered by myself, Lynn and Christian for building understanding and applying learning. Kate is a specialist practitioner for working with children and young people who have profound and multiple learning difficulties. Kate's delivering all sessions for those learners. Sarah is doing exactly the same for children and young people with complex learning difficulties and disabilities. We hope that this way there'll be a really clear path for you to follow. The curriculum for Creative Arts has been developed as a vehicle to experience and enjoy the arts from a learners developmental starting point while additionally consolidating existing skills. We've used a thematic approach which is cohesive with other subject areas across the Oak National Academy to ensure that learning does not happen in isolation and that it can be generalised across different contexts, while focusing on specific art forms that will also have the facility for learners to build on other key skills such as gross and fine motor, communication, cognition and learning, whilst also developing mindfulness and well-being. Our units have been designed to make the best use of everyday activities, spaces, and resources to develop irresistible learning opportunities that promote engagement and consolidate known skills while learning new concepts. Our units will offer sequenced learning activities that coincide with learning from other subject areas, ensuring that learning is systematic, sequential, and cohesive across the ambitious curriculum. It's also meant to be really fun. Creative Arts are structured to cover four developmental starting points. Early Development is broken down into profound and multiple learning disabilities and complex learning difficulties and disabilities. There's then Building Understanding and Applying Learning. Our content is split across six themes, with each broken into three curriculum areas: Music, Performance, and Art. Our suggested sequence places one of the six themes on each half-term, and these have been themed to reflect the calendar, events or seasons. Our six themes are Creating and Responding to Music, Drama, Dance, Sculpture, and Materials. I hope you enjoy providing and delivering this learning to your children and your people or to your learners, whether you're at home or whether you're at school or somewhere else.
