﻿Hi, friends, it's Miss Molnar here, and we are going to do some maths learning today. Today, we're going to be learning all about ordinal numbers. That means we're talking about people or objects or things coming in first, second, third. So, the only thing that you'll need for this lesson is your thinking brain ready. You're not going to need any other items with you. All right, so, let's get started by doing a little bit of a number game. And I brought my friend, Harold the Hedgehog, to help us today. Say hi, Harold to everyone. All right, now Harold can get really competitive, so I'm sure he's going to like to see what we're talking about today, all right. Let's start off with our counting game though. So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to take my magic pen and I'm going to write a number in the air, and I want you to guess what number I might be writing. Are you ready? Okay, so this number's going to be a number from 1 to 10. All right, here I go. I'm going to start at the top, I'm going to go round the loop and back up to the top. Hmm, can you guess what number it might be? So I started at the top and I went around and looped kind of like a snake, and then back to the top. If you said the number eight, well done, I did do the number eight, fantastic guessing. All right, let's do another one. Hmm, let me see. Okay, I've got one. So I'm going to start at the top, I'm going to go across and then down on an angle, hmm. Going to start at the top, go across, and down on an angle. I'll give you a hint, it's one less than eight. If you said seven, well done, I did do seven, fantastic. Okay, last one, everyone, are we ready? So for this one, I'm going to start at the top, I'm going to around and loop at the top there. Hmm, I joined it back at the top. What number was that? So starting at the top, around, and finish at the top again. If you said zero, well done, everyone, that was fantastic. All right, let's see what happened in our learning, because apparently there's a race going on today. Are you ready for the race? Do you have your game face on? All right, let's see what's happening with this race. All right, so it is race day, everyone, at Oak National, and we've got 10 hopeful goldfish who are ready to win the race. They need to swim across from one side of the water to the other side. Hmm, I wonder who do we think is going to come in first place, Harold, what do we think? All right, so Harold is thinking that the blue fish is going to come in first place. What does first place mean? Well, first place means they finish the race first, so they're going to be the first fish to swim across the finish line. So Harold thinks the blue one is going to finish first. Well, I think maybe the orange fish will finish first. Which fish do you think is going to finish first? Hmm, and what fish do we think is going to come in second place? What does second place mean? Second place means the fish that is going to finish in the second place or crosses the finish line the second person. So if we have the first person and then the next fish would come in second, okay? And then, hmm, let me see. I think maybe the green fish is going to come in second. What do you think, Harold? Oh, you think so as well, okay, perfect. And then what about last place? What does it mean if I say a fish is going to come in last place? That means they'll be the last one to cross the finish line, they'll come in last. All right, are we ready to see our fish go, everyone? Are they ready to swim? Oh, they look very ready to swim. Can you help us count down? We're going to say our ready, set, or actually, we should say on your marks, get set, go, that's what we'll say. Okay, are we ready, everyone? Are you going to say it with us? On your marks, get set, and go! And they are off. Oh, look it! Okay, let's see, who's in the lead so far? Who's in first place so far, everyone? Can you see? That's right, it's the orange fish in first place, let's go, let's go, let's go! I said the orange fish was going to come in first. Okay, then we've got, who do we have in second place, everyone, can you see? That's right, the pink fish is a close second. And who is it looking like is in last place, everyone? Hmm, it must be a tough call between the blue and the brown fish. All right, let's keep watching them, let's see how they get on. Oh, my goodness, that orange fish is still in first place. Who's in last place, friends? Ooh, it looks like a tie between blue and brown still. Ooh, it's going to be close between orange and pink. Let's keep going, fish! Let's see. And they finished. All right, wow, what a race, everyone, that was pretty amazing. Now this is the final order that the fish came in. So I'm wondering if you can tell me what colour fish came in first place? So you'd say the hm fish is first. Have a look which fish was the first fish to finish. That's a lot of S sounds there. That's right, the orange fish came in first because he's the number one spot, way to go. All right, and then I might say the pink fish is second. Can you tell us which fish came in third place? So the number three spot or third place. That's right, the green fish is third, way to go. All right, let's try a little bit of a trickier sentence then. The hm fish is behind the hm fish. So I'm going to say the red fish is behind the purple fish. It came in a place behind the purple fish. Can you pick two fish and describe one as being behind the other? So I said the red fish is behind the purple fish. Can you say another one? Well done, fantastic. Now what we'd like to do is we want to say which fish, which coloured fish came in last place. The hm fish is last. So they should be the last one in the line, the last one to cross the finish line. Well done if you said the blue fish is in last place, you're so right, fantastic. All right, so now we want you to have a go at this. Our fish went off on another race, they had, you know, they had to have a second go at it and they finished in a little bit of a different order. So what we would like you to do is pause the video, use the sentence stems, and can you describe which colour fish came in first, second and third? Maybe you're going to describe one fish as being behind another fish, and then you're going to tell us who came in last place. All right, pause the video and have a go at explaining which fish came in which place. Great effort, everyone, I'm sure you were able to describe all the fish coming in their different places using your four sentences. All right, now we've got some other animals getting in on the race, okay? So it's not just fish anymore, we've got lots of different animals, okay? And this is the order that they're currently in for this race. So we're going to order them using our ordinal language, according to who's closest to the finish, okay? So where it says start on the left hand side of the screen, that's where the beginning is, so the fish that are, or the animals that are closest to the start are going to be further to the last place. The animals that are closer to the other side, on the right, they're closer to being in first place. So, can you spot which animal is in first place at the moment? If you pointed to the shark, well done, you're right, the shark is in first place right now, well done. Which animal is in last place right now? That's right, the red fish is in last place, way to go. We want to know who came in second, third, maybe even fourth, that would mean the fourth place animal. And maybe you're going to say one animal's behind another one, okay? So we want to hear you using all of that ordinal language, so pause the video, have a go at that, and then we'll come back together. Wow, my goodness, what an exciting race day it's been. Did you figure out which animal came in second place? If you said the frog, well done, friends. What about third place? It was the dog, wow, it's just been such a busy day of races. Well, we really hope you've enjoyed using ordinal language to figure out who came in which place.
