﻿Hello, I'm Adam and this is Panda. We're on unit three, lesson nine. Using the story "The Little Red Hen". Let's see what's on the agenda today. Well, we may have started with "The Little Red Hen", but that story has now changed. It's been recycled and it's now a story about a very little bear. Panda and I thought it would be a good idea to remind ourselves of the story by singing it. So, that will be our warmup today and then after that, the main challenge is to act out the story thinking about character. Let's move on to the warmup. What it was a story about a little red hen, but now we've recycled the story and made it into another one with a very little bear. And we know that she's kind and we know that she's determined and we know that she's got friends. She's got a lion. She's got a zebra friend. And she's got giraffe. And in the story, just like with the little red hen, they don't come and help her. She wants to build a pool, so everybody can come and splash about and have fun. But they all have reasons why they can't come. And we'll discover those later, when we do some role play. So for now, to remind ourselves of the story of the very little bear, shall we sing the story? And you can join in, if you want to. Or you can sing it in your head, like Panda. Some of you may have played a game before called "Tell Me More". Do you want to say those words? Tell me more. Three really useful words. We use them when we're doing role play sometimes. Here is a character from the story. Do you know who it is? Zebra. Do you want to wave to zebra? Now, in the story zebra, lion and giraffe, they didn't come to help. They did say sorry, but we don't know why. In The Little Red Hen, the friends just said no and they weren't really nice. But these friends were kinder. Zebra, the poor very little bear, she wanted help. You didn't help. How do you feel about that? Zebra said, she feels a little bit embarrassed, a bit sad, because she wanted to help her friend. But you were to busy? Tell me more about being busy. You had to help your dad. Tell me more. Dad was teaching all the children how to gallop and jump over hedges. Wow, and he needed your help, cause you've got younger brothers and sisters? Well, that was once, what about the other times when you didn't help? You had to help your mom. Tell me more. Mom needed help looking after the baby foal. And you were very kind and you helped your mom, looked after the baby foal? If you'd like to, it may be that you have a talk teddy or maybe we can all just use our hands. If you use your hand, you can pretend your hand is any character you like. And you can ask it questions. You can choose to be the lion or the zebra or the giraffe. Now, if you are the giraffe, you'd give yourself a long neck, wouldn't you? Why don't you ask one of the other animals why it was they couldn't come and help the very little bear? And remember, if you ask them tell me more, it will help you think. Use your imagination to think of some of the reasons why they couldn't come. I'm going to pause the video and I'd like you to try that. Okay, and afterwards we'll come back and we going to act out the whole story. Well, you can see that I've chosen to stand up to do this activity. But could you just stay where you are for a moment? I want to show you something you can try yourselves. I'm going to act out the story, pretending I am the little bear. So, I might say what the little bear was thinking. I'll show you what I mean. I wonder what it's like outside today. Hello everybody! Hello friends! Oh, it's a hot day, let's build a swimming pool. Who will help me? Sorry, little bear, I can't come now. Sorry, little bear, I can't come now. I'm really sorry, I can't come now. No one cares, I'll dig a whole with this spade by myself. It's hard work, but that would be great for a swimming pool. I need to put some stones on the bottom. Who will help me put stones at the bottom of the pool? Sorry, I'm helping my mom. Sorry, I'm helping mom look after the foal. Ah, I'm learning how to eat juicy leaves, I'll come later. No one cares, I'll have to do it all by myself. These stones are heavy. Done! Now I need some water. Who will help me put water in the pool? I'm learning how to brush my mane. I can't come, I've hurt my knee. I don't feel very well today. No one cares, I'll do it all myself. Water is heavy. That's looking good! A slide, a slide! And me and my friends, we could have fun. Who will help me build a slide? Sorry! Sorry! I'd really like to. No one cares, I'll make the slide myself. I think it's ready. Who wants to play in the swimming pool? I want to swim, I want to swim! I want to swim, I want to swim! I really want to swim! Well, you didn't help me make it. So, I'll swim in it myself. It's not much fun on my own. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. We're all sorry! Everybody, come and join in. So, how is that? Did you enjoy acting out the story? How did you feel, when you were the very little bear at the end and you were swimming on your own? Did you feel a little bit sad that your friends weren't joining in? It's really good to have friends that are sorry, isn't it? And it was fun with everybody joining in. The ending of our story now is very different, isn't it? From the story of the little red hen, where she really did eat that loaf all by herself. I wonder which one of the two characters was happiest at the end. I don't know. Panda and I are excited though, because in the next lesson you're going to be telling that story all by yourself. But to help you, we are going to look at the story map, sing the song and tell the story together. So we're excited about that. I'm really proud of you for all the work that you were doing on telling this story. So, let's quickly recap what we've done today. We have sang the story all together. We have talked to the characters in the story, using Tell Me More, so we could learn more about them. And we've acted out the story. Our challenge is can you show some of the things that you've done today to somebody else. Keep on telling stories and we really look forward to seeing you in the next session soon.
