﻿Hello everyone, and welcome back to another lesson with me, Miss Sidenius. Today, we are going to be mixing colours and using a picture of a fire engine to help us paint a picture. So we're going to start today's lesson by looking at a photo of a fire engine, and thinking about the different features of a fire engine. Then we're going to paint a picture of a fire engine using the photo to make sure that we've got all of the different features that we spoke about in the lesson. You're going to need four things in this lesson, some paper, some paint, cup of water, and a pen or pencil. Pause the video here, make sure you've got those four things and come back when you're ready. Wait, we're ready to get started. So I've got a photo of a fire engine on the screen, and I need your help to tell me about the different features of the fire engine. What do you notice about the fire engine? Have a think. Tell your screen. Wow, you notice so many different things about the fire engine. I noticed that the fire engine is red and yellow, and it has some silver colours on it as well, and some black too. I noticed that the fire engine is mainly a rectangle shape, and it has a rectangle at the front, and a rectangle at the back. What's on the top of the fire engine, did any of you notice that? It's a bit tricky to see but there's a ladder on the top of the fire engine, so that if there's a fire high up in a building or a fire fighter needs to help someone high up in a building or in a tree, they can use the ladder to get them. What else does the fire engine have? I can see a big yellow hose and a big red hose which is used to put out the fire. It sprays water all over the fire to put it out. What about doors? How many doors can you see on the fire engine? That's right, I can see two doors and I can even see some steps going up to the doors because they're quite high up. The firefighters need to climb into the fire engine. And also, I can see that the front of the fire engine is a bit taller than the back of the fire engine. So we've noticed lots of different features of the fire engine. And when we come to paint our fire engine, we need to try and use these features in our painting. So to start off with, I'm going to draw the outline of a fire engine before I go in and paint it so that I can get the details that we spoke about. As you can see, I'm drawing the front of the fire engine. And remember, there was a rectangle at the front. And, yes, there was another rectangle at the back. A rectangle has two short sides and two long sides like that. Remember, the front of the fire engine was taller than the back. That's why I've done it looking taller. Now, I didn't quite leave enough space to do two doors like in the photo, but I have done one very big door. And I think, oh yes, there were some steps going up to the doors as well. So I've added some steps up to the doors there. I'm just going around my door again, you make a mistake it doesn't matter because when we come to painting it, you won't even notice anymore. And I forgot what about talking about the wheels? Of course the fire engine has wheels as well, and that it can quickly drive around to put out fires. So I've got a wheel there, and another wheel. It goes to the back but first, I'm going to draw one of the compartments in my fire engine. So, I think this is where they store the hoses, the big compartment down the middle with some boxes on the sides and had a pattern, didn't it? It had some yellow and some red going along there. So I'm going to draw the pattern now just like we saw on the photo. So I'm really using the photo to help me draw my fire engine. And on the other side, there were some compartments on the other side as well, weren't there? So I've got one compartment here, a bit like a shelf. And in that one, there was a thin yellow hose, we've got a thin yellow hose there. Coming all the way out of the fire engine, so that the firefighters can use it to put out the fire. There is my hose. And, what else was that? The wheel at the back of the fire engine, now I'm going to draw that wheel. So I'm trying to make it about the same size as the one on the front. It doesn't matter if they're a bit different. Then I'm going to draw another long compartment at the back here. What's in there? Just some other compartments with special equipment that firefighters use to put out the fires. Now it's time to have a go drawing the ladder on the top of the fire engine. I'm drawing a really long rectangle. Now look at those two long sides, and those two short sides are much shorter. And a box on the top, yes, a siren as well. Very important a fire engine has a siren, so that people can hear when the fire engine is coming to help. Now I'm finishing off drawing my ladder. These are each of the little steps that the firefighters climb up to get to the fire. And the ladder goes all the way back down like that. And there we go, it's really starting to look like a fire engine now, because I used the picture to help me. I'm just adding some of the finishing touches like a handle that help climb into the fire engine. And what else could I add? Let's see, pause the video here, draw your fire engine and come back when you're ready. Great job, everyone. Now it's time to start painting our fire engine. So again, you can use the photo on the screen to help you paint. But really think about the different colours that we have on a fire engine. And mainly red, and yellow, and grey, like we spoke about earlier. I'm going to do all the way around the outside of the front of the fire engine. I'm going to do red just like the colour in the picture. And I'm going quite slowly and carefully so that the red doesn't go all out of the lines everywhere make a big mess. I want to keep it inside the lines, I'm going really slowly and carefully and I've used a thin small paintbrush to get inside the lines. Right now I'm going around to do the front. I went a little bit outside of the line set, but it doesn't matter. See I've gone ahead and I've filled in lots of the other part of the fire engine that were red as well. Just going along the bottom now. Are there any parts that I've missed out that were red? Yes, there was that yellow and red pattern on the grey compartment of the fire engine. I'm only going to colour in the red squares or rectangles. I have one more left to do, and then I know that the other ones will be yellow. I could also do one side of the siren because one side is blue, and one side is red. There we go. I think I'm almost done with all of my red parts now. Just that last bit on the step and inside the wheels. There we go. So now I need to wait for that to dry a little bit. Pause the video here, paint the red parts of your fire engine and come back when you're ready. So now I'm going in with my yellow paintbrush, and I'm going to do all of the parts of my fire engine that are yellow. And remember, you can use the photo of fire engine from earlier, to help you colour in the yellow parts as well. If you don't have paint, you can just use pencil pencils too. So there was some yellow yellow across the top there, and again, I'm going slowly, slowly here, so that I stay inside the lines and it looks really neat. Slowly, slowly across the top, all the way to the end. There we go. And there was some other yellow parts on my fire engine too. Can you remember where they were? That's right, a hose was yellow. And the pattern on the side was yellow as well. I'm being careful here not to get any yellow paint mixed in with red. I have to go really slowly, that's it. I'll just do the other little yellow parts as well on the bottom, then I'm going to paint my hose too, all the way up to the top. And there we go. Now it's time to do my hose. So, this is a very thin hose, so I have to be careful now and go slowly and carefully, so that I don't make a mess. Paint the yellow parts of your fire engine and come back when you're ready. Excellent job everyone. Now you can see from the picture here that I've just grabbed a grey pen and a black pen, 'cause I didn't have those colour paints. And I waited for my paint to dry and then I went back, and I coloured in the seat, and the wheels, and the steps, and the grey ladder as well. So I got all of the different parts coloured in. It really looks like a fire engine now, doesn't it? So pause the video here, colour in the rest of your fire engine and come back when you're ready. Well done everyone. You've put so much effort and thought into your fire engine picture. Sometimes it can really help to have a photo to observe before you start painting so you know exactly what features you need to include and you can really make it look real. So well done again.
