﻿Welcome to your math lesson with me, Mrs. Harris. In this lesson, we'll be learning to count to six reliably. Here's what we're going to do in the lesson. We're going to start it off with a song and we'll have the new learning where we learn to count to six together. After that I put a little talk task for you. Following your talk task we'll develop your understanding to really, really make sure that you can count to six reliably. And finally, we'll finish the lesson with your independent learning. Let's find out what you need to do all your learning today. Well, you need your printed worksheet. It would be great if you could have some tea party tableware. And by that, I kind of mean some cups and some plates and anything else you might imagine at a birthday party. So if you don't have those things ready now pause the video go and find them and then come back to me ready for our song. Okay, have you got everything you need? Let's sing our song. There's a song that's a little bit familiar, but it's usually about currant buns in a baker's shop. Did you sing along with it by the end? We're going to use that song to inspire our new learning. I've even taken a picture from it. Can you see it's on the screen? Maybe if you downloaded the worksheet, you've got the picture too. Take a look at the picture for a second. See all the lovely things you can see. I can see some flowers, some chairs, some people. I can see some cakes, some butterfly cakes. I can see loaves of bread, baguettes, sauces. I can see flowers. Anything else you can see? Ooh, chocolate eclairs mmm, mmm, mmm Well, we're going to use this picture to do some counting. But before we use the picture, I thought it would be good to use some real things. I liked using real things to count with. And I found a cup of tea. I have one cup of tea. One, there is no more is there? Just one. I counted to one and I said the number as I touched it. I said we were counting to six today didn't i? Let's count my chairs that I have here. I have one, two, three, four, five. Let me check them again. One, two, three, four, five, five is the last number I've said so that represents how many chairs I have all together. That's still not six Is it? I've got some cake here, the cake and the baker shop the slices of cake. And I can say one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13. Oh, I don't think I've done that right. I do you get an a muddle when I don't put things in a line to count them. I think I'll count my cake again. I have one, two, three, four, five, six. Ooh. I think I've got six slices. Let me check again, maybe you can count with me. One, two, three, four, five, six. I do have six pieces of cake, I said six last, so that means it represents the total in the group. Amazing. I was trying to count to six today and it was a bit more reliable when I put them in a line wasn't it? And when I touched them as I counted them. Have a look at the picture. You can point to the screen or if you have it on your paper, you can touch your paper can't you? I would like you to count the butterfly cakes. They're the ones next to the slices near the baker. We're going to say one, two, three, four, five, six. There are six butterfly cakes. Can you say that? There are six butterfly cakes. Good job. That was quite easy because they were in the line, like I had my cake slice of cake in a line. Let's count something else that's in a line. Let's count the baguettes, that's the bread on the top shelf at the back, can you see it? Hey, let's count the baguettes. One, two, three, there are three baguettes Well done, super counting. I hope you did point to, I hope you did touch them on your piece of paper. That was another thing that was in the line. I know let's count the people they're not in a line are they? Can you see all the people? Now when I want it to count the people, I want to include the baker. He's a person. So let's start with the baker. Are you ready? One, two, three, four, five, six. There are six people in the baker's shop. Did you find six people in the baker's shop? If you didn't take a second now, just to find them all. Have you got them? Well done. With your talk task, you're going to practise counting to six and you're going to use these cakes that the baker made. He's put some candles in them. They're for different people's birthdays. Can you see all the candles in the cakes and the numbers underneath them? That shows you how many candles are in that cake? I've got some cakes here too. And I'm going to show you what you need to do. You need to choose a cake and you need to count the candles. I'd like you to say one, two, three, there are three candles in this cake. And then choose another one. Let me choose this one, one, two, three, four, five. There are five candles in this cake. Did you hear the talking I was doing? That's what you need to do because it's a talk task. And if you want to challenge yourself, you can also cut the cakes out under the supervision of your parent or carer and then put them in the right order from the fewest candles to the most. Pause the video now and have a go. Welcome back, how did you get on with counting the candles and saying how many you had? Did you remember my sentence? Where I said one, two, I have two candles in this cake. I wonder did you take up my challenge of putting them in order from fewest to most? Let me do that now one, two, three, four, five, and this one has six candles in I ran out of candles, so I used these instead. There are six one, two, three, four, five, six. Now my cakes are in order from fewest to most. They're in order of one, two, three, four, five, six. I'm ready to set up my tea party and this tea party It will help develop your understanding of the number six and counting to number six reliably. I'm doing it to six because well, there are six people come into my party. So every one of them needs a plate. One, two, three, four, five, six that's good. I had enough plates, one for all of my guests. But now, I think I've been to put some napkins on my plates. One, two, three, four, five, six. Oh, I don't need this one. I think my friends might like a drink. I've got these big cups. I think they're going to be super thirsty. So one, two, three, four, five, six. I had enough cups for all my guests. Now, I did some straws, can't have a party without straws. And I found these nice paper ones. So one, two, three, four, five, six. Did you notice that time, I just put them in any cup. It didn't matter as long as they've all got one. I know I counted the cups out really well. So I know if I put one straw in every cup, I've got six cups. I think next, we better have our yummy, yummy looking cakes. hmmmm, okay One, two, three, four, five, and six. I have six cakes, one for each of my six guests. I've got something else for my party. I've got them a present each, just to say thanks for coming. So lets see one, two, three, whoa this ones are stuck together, four, five, and six. Brilliant, my party is all set up. All that I need now are the guests. Let me just move their presents out of the way. I might keep them for a surprise for later. So here's my guests, one, two, three, four, five. Oh I only got five guests. Oh yes, one of them was me. I forgot to count myself, one, two, three, four, five, six. All my six guests are at the party, we've got everything we need. Now, It's time for you to do your independent learning to set up your tea party for six people. Remember, to check each item to sure you've got six of it, so you can share them out so every guest has one. But if you want to challenge yourself after doing that, you can set up another team party maybe for the five little speckled frogs. Or maybe you can set one up for the four little ducks who went swimming one day. Are you going to have things leftover? If you do that Why? So pause the video now and set up your tea party of six. I would only need four things. One, two, three, four which would mean I had two sets leftover. I know why that is. Is because four is fewer than six. Six is more than four.
