﻿Hello, super storytellers, and welcome to this English lesson. My name is Ms. Cashin and this is lesson six of our unit all about information texts. In our lessons so far, we have been learning an information text about witches. You learned about the ice witch, but you have also now invented your very own witch. And you're going to write about them for our special book, "All About Witches". Today, we are going to box up for purpose. That means we are going to plan out every part of our information text. We're going to think about our introduction. We're going to think about our witches' appearance. We're going to think about the habitat and we're going to think about their behaviour and plan it out so we're all ready for our writing in some of our other lessons. We're going to start today's lesson with a spelling activity, then I am going to interview you about your witch. Then you're going to watch me box up my information text and then you will box up your very own information text so you're all ready to write about it in lessons eight, nine and 10. So these are things you're going to need in our lesson today. You're going to need an exercise book or a piece of paper and it would be amazing if you had a plain piece of paper so that you can do your box plan. You're going to need something to write with, a pen or a pencil. And of course, you're going to need your fantastic brain to remember all those decisions that you've already made about your witch so you can put them into your box plan. So if you need to go and get any of those things, you can pause the video and go and get them. Well done, super storytellers. You are all ready for our English lesson. So let's get started with our spelling activity. For our spellings today, we are going to consolidate and review a spelling rule that we've already looked at in one of our earlier units. If you didn't look at this spelling rule with us in one of our early units, that's absolutely fine. You can still join in our spelling activity. So we are looking at when the l sound is spelled L-E at the end of a word. Let's practise that sound. My turn, your turn. Le, le, le. Fantastic, super spellers. Okay, I'm going to show you the start of my word, which has an le sound at the end. Le, wh, wh, wh, wh. Which word was this? Wh, le, wh, le. I remember. Whale. Whale. Whale. The ocean witch saw a whale. Fantastic, superstars. I've given you the first two letters of the word whale, but there are three letters left. Pause the video and see if you can spell the word whale, remembering that the le sound is spelled L-E. So pause the video to have a go. Well done, super spellers. Let's have a look at how we spelled that word. There it is. Whale, W-H-A-L-E. Pause the video to see if you spelled it right. And if you made a mistake, you can cross it out and write whale correctly so you won't make the same mistake next time. Well done, super spellers. Let's have a look at our next word. Li, le, li, le. Little, little, little, little. The forest witch was very little. Fantastic, superstars. Okay. Pause the video and see if you can spell the word little. I've given you the first two letters, but there are four more. Well done, super spellers. Let's have a look. There it is. L-I-T-T-L-E for the le sound at the end. Pause the video and see if you spelled little right, and if you made a mistake, cross it out so you won't make the same mistake next time. Well done, super spellers. We have one more word to do. Le, a, le. It's not apple because that would have to have more letters. It's able. I remember, able. Able, able. Witches are able to fly. Fantastic, super spellers. Okay, I've given you the first letter, which makes an a sound and there are three letters left, so pause the video to see if you can spell able. Well done, super spellers. Let's have a look at our last word. There it is, A-B-L-E. A, b, le. Pause the video to see if you got that one right. Well done, super spellers. You have worked so hard already. Now I'm going to interview you about your witch. I'm going to use a pen as my interviewing microphone today, so if you would like to get something to be your microphone, you could pause the video and go and get it. Well done, super storytellers. Let's get going with our interview. I can't wait to hear more about your witch. Here's my first question. Have a think before I ask you. What sort of witch have you discovered? What sort of witch are they? Where do they live? Where in the world are they? Have a think. Okay. What sort of witch have you discovered? I heard some incredible ideas from our amazing learners. I heard somebody say that they've discovered an ocean witch who lives under the sea. I heard somebody say that they've discovered a mountain witch who lives on top of a mountain. I heard somebody say that they have discovered a forest witch who lives inside trees. So many amazing ideas. Let's have a look at our next question. Oh, have a think before you answer. What do they look like? How would you know that you're finding your witch? What are their eyes like? What's their hair like? What are their lips like? What are their clothes like? What is their body like? Lot to think about. Have a careful think. Okay. What do they look like? Some absolutely incredible witches out there. I heard somebody say that their forest witch has hair made of autumn leaves. I heard somebody say that the city witch has eyes like electric light bulbs. I heard somebody say that the ocean witch wears a T-shirt made entirely of fish. Fantastic ideas, okay. Oh, let's have a careful think about this question before you answer. What is their home like? The ice witches' home is their burrow, which they dig themselves, but they decorate it beautifully on the inside. So what is your witch's home like? How do they make it? Do they like it in there? Have a careful think. Okay. What is their home like? Amazing ideas from our amazing learners. I heard one person say that their witch, the city witch, lives on top of a skyscraper. I heard somebody say that they have discovered a desert witch who lives underneath the sand and you would never know that they are there. So many great ideas. I can't wait to read our book all about witches. Okay, have another careful think. What do they do during the day? I know that the ice witch stays in their burrow and they sing their sad, beautiful, but sad song. So what does your witch do during the day? Do they leave? Do they stay at home? Are they kind during the day? Are they wicked during the day? Okay. What do they do during the day? Oh, my goodness. I heard somebody say that the desert witch whips up sandstorms if she sees anyone coming who she doesn't want in her desert. I heard somebody say that the ocean witch stays at the lowest point of the ocean and they only come up when it's nighttime. I heard somebody say that their witch flies around all day long. Okay, next question. Let's have a careful think before we answer. What do they do at night? What do they do at night? I remember that the ice witch likes to fly around looking for food, but what does your witch do at night? And is it different to what they do during the day? Have a think. Okay. What do they do at night? So many exciting things that our witches do at night. I heard somebody say that when the ocean witch comes to the top at nighttime, they leap like a dolphin out of the ocean. I heard somebody say that the forest witch comes down from their tree and they roam around the forest at night. Oh, my goodness. I think this might be my favourite question. You need to have a careful think before you answer. Do they have any special powers? Now, I know that my ice witch can dig holes with their claws. I know that they don't feel the cold. But their special power, which I think is the most exciting, but also the most frightening, is that if you upset them, they can turn you to ice with one hard stare. So have a think about your witch. Do they have any special powers which are good special powers? Do they have any special powers which are bad special powers? Do they use them in a good way? Do they use them in an evil way? Have a careful think. Okay. Do they have any special powers? So many of our witches have special powers. I heard people talking about their witches being able to fly around. I heard some people talking about how our witches can find food in different ways. I heard somebody say that their witch can cast spells. So many amazing ideas. Now you're going to watch me box up my information text and then you'll box up your information text. I have already done the pictures for my box plan and I've got five boxes. One, two, three, four, five for my pictures. And here is where I'm going to think carefully about the purpose of each part of my information text and any keywords and phrases. So, here is the first part of my page, All About Witches. Can you remember which, what is this part called? That's right, it's the introduction. And the purpose of the introduction is to clearly introduce the ice witch so everyone knows what they're reading about. We know that the purpose of an information text is to give clear information, so we want people to know we're going to introduce the ice witch. Then we're going to describe what the ice witch looks like and you will describe what your witch looks like. What is this section called when we tell the reader what the witch looks like? That's right, superstars. It is appearance. And the purpose of our appearance section is to tell the reader what the witch looks like. So that's what I need to think about when I go and think about my keywords and phrases. Okay, this is where I tell them where in the world they live and what their home is like. What is this section called? Can you remember? It's called habitat. It is their habitat. Ha, bi, t, a, t. There we go. And the purpose of this section is to clearly tell the reader where the witch lives. Superb, okay. Then I'm going to tell my reader what they do during the day, what they do at night, what they do when it gets hot and what they do if they see a human. What is this section called? That's right. It's called behaviour. How does the witch behave? And the purpose of this section is to tell the reader what the witch does. What do they do? Okay, in my last paragraph, I'm going to say, "Thank you so much for reading about the ice witch. "The ice witch is an amazing creature. "They sing, they look incredible "and if you read the rest of this book, "you can find out about other witches." So this is our conclusion. And in our conclusion, we summarise the information. So I just summarise some key points, some key pieces of information about the ice witch. Okay, so, I have done my pictures of all the information that I want to give. I have thought carefully about the title of each section and the purpose, so now I'm going to go through and think about my keywords and phrases and I'm also going to make sure that I'm talking in the present tense. So we are talking about the witch doing these things at the moment or continuously doing them. So I'm going to talk through each section and if I come to any brilliant words or any words I really want to remember, I'm going to jot them down. There are lots of different witches in the world, so I think different is important. D, i, ff, er, e, e, n, t. Different. There are lots of different witches in the world. There are forest witches, ocean witches and even city witches. There are happy witches, wicked witches, or kind witches and wicked witches, and some funny witches, as well. One of my favourite witches is the magical ice witch, and if you read this book, you will find out all about them. So I want to write in the present tense, so I'm going to write down there are 'cause I want to remember that I'm not going to say "there were." Going to say, "there "are," and then I'll continue that later. Okay. On to appearance. And I know that the purpose of this section is to tell the reader what the witch looks like, so I've drawn my ice witch here. I can see they've got their thin, grey lips. For this expanded noun phrase, I need a comma in between. So they're thin, grey lips. They have transparent skin. They have completely white eyes. I'm going to stop there for today, but I could talk about the hair, I could talk about the clothes they're wearing, and of course their sharp talons. Habitat. I know the purpose of this section is to tell the reader where the witch lives, so they love to live in the North or the South Pole. And I really want to remember I'm in the present tense, so they love. Not they loved. They love to live in the North or South Pole. They dig. Again, not they dug. They dig burrows themselves with their sharp talons. So I might put sharp talons here to remind myself to include that detail. And we know that they decorate it with beautiful patterns on the inside. Do you remember how we spell beautiful? B, E, A, U, ti, ful. So they decorate it with beautiful patterns. Okay, on to behaviour. I know the purpose of this section is to tell my reader what the witch does, so they sing a beautiful but sad song. I've already said beautiful. I might say they sing a stunning, but sad song. Sing stunning but sad song. At night, they hunt for fish. If it gets too hot, they fall asleep. I don't think I need any keywords there. If they see a human, they can be kind. They can be kind, but if you upset them, they will turn you to ice with one hard stare. So I like that phrase, one hard stare. S, t, are. Stare. Okay, in conclusion, I think the ice witch is a fascinating witch. You could say interesting, magical. I'm going to say fascinating. They're incredible to see, to see and to hear. And then I'm just going to remind myself to say, "If you read this book" because I want them to read some of the other brilliant pages. Now that you've seen me box up for purpose my information text about the ice witch, it's time for you to box up your plan for your very own witch. Now, when you're doing this, you're going to do your introduction, appearance, habitat, behaviour and conclusion, just like I did. You don't need to write down what the purpose is because we did that all together, but you do need to remember when you are writing like your appearance, for example, that the purpose of that section is to tell the reader what the witch looks like, so think about the descriptive phrases you need to give that clear information and make sure that you are planning your writing in the present tense. So pause the video now, super storytellers, and go and box up your very own information text. Well done, super storytellers. My witch would, have a think. What would your witch do if they met a human? Are they going to be kind? Are they going to be unkind? Are they going to cast a spell on them? Are they going to do something else magical? Are they going to be helpful? What would your witch do? Can you tell me? Oh, my goodness. What a mixture of fantastic ideas. I heard someone say that their witch would always offer a lift to a human. They would say, "Where are you going? "I can pick you up and fly away "and I can take you there really, really quickly." I heard somebody say that their witch would never be that kind to a human and that their witch would always cast a spell on them if they saw them. Oh, my goodness.
