﻿Hello, everybody. It's great to be here today. I'm Mrs Howley, and this is Cedric. Cedric would like us to play a game first of all, this morning. He'd like to play the Tell and Mime game. Have you played that game before? Don't worry, if you haven't. It's very easy. Cedric is going to tell me part of the story of the magic paintbrush, and then I'm going to see if you can guess which parts of the story it is. the story it is. Okay. Which part do you think it was? It was the part of the story where Ma Liang Ma Liang uses the papers for the first time. Well done. This time, Cedric, I'm going to mime when I'm going to see if you can guess it, which parts of the story do you think it was? It is the part where the greedy King tries to use the paintbrush, but it doesn't work. I'm going to try one more. You ready Cedric? Which do you think it was? It was the parts of the story where Ma Liang Ma Liang draws the giant wave. Great work. You could try playing that game with someone at home. In today's lesson, we're going to box up the story for a purpose, looking at mood. We're going to start with some spelling. Then we're going to retell the story with our story map. Then we're going to box up the story. And then we're going to explore the moods, using our senses. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or some paper, a pencil, or a pen and draw a brilliant brain. Why don't you pause the video now to collect those things. In our spelling this week, we're going to look at words that begin with wh, wh we're going to look at words that begin with w-h, w-h. Most of the time, this grapheme sounds like this, Most of the time, this grapheme sounds like this, which is a good job because Cedric's dosed off. So, we're going to talk in a whisper. whisper. In today's lesson, we're going to be building our toolkit for creating mood in a story. for creating mood in a story. We're going to retell the story now, but I'm going to do it using my story map with my mood words written on it. If you've got your story map, you might want to do the same thing. So it starts off happy, then we've got the mood of mystery, then we've got the mood of mystery, then the wonder of finding the paintbrush. Wow. Then the kindness, Ma Liang Ma Liang shows to other people, awwww awwww then we've got more wonder and magic as he creates all those fantastic things. Wow, can you have a go? Great. Then we've got the moment where he draws the giant wave and went back to, wow, wow, your turn. Great. And then the ending of our story where we're back to that happy mood. Awww. Awww. Using your map like that is a great way to look at the moods and retell the story. What we're going to do now is we're going to box up the story into five important moments. story into five important moments. And we're going to look at the mood of each of those moments. Okay? So when we boxed up our story. I'm going to draw a line down the middle of the page to show our two sections and then four lines across the page four lines across the page to make five different sections to make five different sections for each of the key moments we're going to choose. Now I think the first really key moment in the story is when Ma Liang young uses the paintbrush for the first time, Ma Liang Ma Liang Ma Liang uses uses uses the, one of our tricky words, the, one of our tricky words, paintbrush paintbrush Now, I'm writing words, little sentences. Now, I'm writing words, little sentences and I'm also drawing pictures, but you can just put pictures or you can do a couple of words. It's completely up to you. Okay, I think the next important point is the fact that with the paintbrush, what does he do? He helps the people, another one of our tricky words. Remember this is how we want the audience to feel. We want them to feel that magic and feel that wonder. I'm going to draw a heart to show that kindness, but we also want the audience to feel happy about what's happening. That's our job as the storyteller or the writer. We felt sorry for Ma Liang when we listened to the story, now then this moment in the story, and before when Ma Liang has an idea, we, as the audience don't know what's going on. So it's that mood of suspense. So it's that mood of suspense. We're on the edge of the seat, we're thinking what next? And then in the final part of the story, we're back to that happy mood, big smiley face, we're back to that happy mood, big smiley face, but we've also got that mood of kindness again, because he's helping the other people. And we're going to explore the mood, using our senses. Now this section over here is going to be all about what we can see. So I'm going to draw an eye at the top of that. This section is going to be all about what we can hear. But I'm going to put a hand thinking about the sense of touch, but it's everything that we feel. Pause the video now to draw your sensory grid. So in this top section, we're thinking about what we can see. So maybe people with wide eyes, So maybe people with wide eyes, remember we want to show that mood of Wow and Wonder, remember we want to show that mood of Wow and Wonder, and you can draw pictures or you can write words. These people have also got open mouths, wide open, because they can't believe what they can see. Draw that picture. Whoa, what other things could we see when he's first using his magic paint brush? What can you see? So now we'll go to think about what we can here as these amazing things are happening with the magic paintbrush. So the first thing is that gasps. gasps. Gasps. Gasps. Next might hear people saying things like, "Wow!", Next might hear people saying things like, "Wow!", there might be silence. Or there might be, Hooray. Hooray. Hooray. Hooray. Cheers. This is the moment where he's changed people's lives. They might actually shout, hooray, and they might be so happy and so full of wonder and they might be so happy and so full of wonder that they start laughing and giggling. Laughter I wonder what sounds you think you'd hear in this magical moment? Pause the video again, to describe the sounds you can hear. How can we show that magical moment through tastes? So I'm thinking these plates of delicious food might taste sweet. I love this word, mouthwatering, I love this word, mouthwatering, that people are watching these plates of food come to life and then mouths are watering because they look so delicious. and then mouths are watering because they look so delicious. I might draw a picture of somebody with I might draw a picture of somebody with the literally salivating the literally salivating over this delicious food. Delicious. Remember when you do yours, you can just use pictures. If you'd prefer or you can write words and that word, yummy, just to create that mood in our audience, pause the video again, to add to your gird what you can taste and in our final section, what can we feel? Now, the first thing I was thinking that you'd be feeling goosebumps all over your body. that you'd be feeling goosebumps all over your body. It feels strange watching these magical things happening. You might feel shivers down your spine, You might feel shivers down your spine, but also that happiness might give you a warm glow, but also that happiness might give you a warm glow, that wonderful feeling of, wow. that wonderful feeling of, wow. Pause the video for a final time to add to your grid, what you can feel? what you can feel? How did you get on?
