﻿Hi, and welcome to today's lesson, the human race. I'm your teacher Miss Waka, and our learning objective is to understand that we all look different. Hi, my name is Miss Waka. What's your name? Oh, hi there. In our world, we have lots of different people. We are all part of one community. We all live on the world. We all live in the world. But how are that we the same? We are all humans. Yes! We grow from tiny little babies, into children, and then into adults, and then old men or old women. But, how are we different? Yes, we may have different coloured skin or different coloured hair. What is race? Have you heard of the word race before? What do you think it means? Yes! When you have a race and you come first, second, or third. But, people are grouped by race. Each group is very different and very special. We're going to read the story, "Not Like The Others". That's the title of this book, "Not Like The Others". And the author. What is an author? An author is someone who writes the book. The author of this book is Jana Broecker. She is also the publisher of this book. Let's enjoy this story shall we. Foxes dig dens down deep in the ground, where they cuddle to sleep. They are safe, they are sound. With large, upright ears, and long, pointy snouts, foxes look fabulous without any doubt. Freddy, the Fox loves his sisters and brothers, but Freddy, the fox, he is not like the others. Look carefully, please! This job is a toughie! Is Freddy's long tail, that's fluffier than fluffy. Can you see how all the foxes look the same? What do they all have? Yes, they have long, pointy snouts. And large upright ears. Can you find Freddy with his long tail that is fluffier than the rest. Look carefully. There he is. Did you find him? Squirrels climb trees without getting dizzy. Hiding food for cold days is keeping them busy. It's common for squirrels to forget nuts and seeds in the spring. These might sprout into green little trees. Sally, the squirrel, loves her sisters and brothers, but Sally, the squirrel, is not like the others. You take a good look! Sally's holding on tight, to one yummy acorn with all of her might. All of these squirrels look the same. But, what's the name of the squirrel that looks different? Yes, Sally. Why does she look different? Because she's holding tight to a yummy acorn. Can you find her, look carefully. Because they all look the same. You need to find the one Sally, that is different. Who's holding the acorn. Did you find her? There she is. Some bears look plump and are heavy in weight. Still, they run and climb swiftly, isn't that great? Their bodies are shaggy, their ears round and small, to sleep through the winter, they feast in the fall. Bailey, the bear, loves his sister and brothers, but Bailey, the bear, he is not like the others. Can you see the poor Bailey? He ate lots of honey. Then an angry bee stung him. That's really not funny. So all these bears, they look the same. They have the same colour, fur. They have two eyes, two ears, but one of them, which one? Bailey, he likes to eat lots of honey. Can you find him? Look closely. Did you find him? There he is. Well done. Deer have long legs that allow them to jump over stones, over puddles or around a big stump. When deer fawn are born, they have spots on there fur. After three months or four, these aren't there anymore. David, the deer, loves his sisters and brothers, but Derek, the deer, he is not like the others. I'm sure you can spot him! The difference is showing, Derek isn't the same. His antlers are growing. So here we have deers can you describe the deers for me? Well done. They have long legs. What do the long legs let them do? They help them jump. What do they jump over? Stones, puddles, and big stumps. Well done. Now Derek looks a little bit different to the rest of his brothers and sisters, why? Yes, his antlers are growing. So look really closely. Can you find Derek, the deer, with his antlers growing? I bet you can find him. Look closely. Did you find him? There he is. Well done. Rabbits dig tunnels down deep in the ground. They nibble on grass not making the sound. They've got long furry ears and a short fluffy tail. And they hide Easter eggs without leaving a trail. Rose, the rabbit, loves her sisters and brothers, but Rose, the rabbit, she is not like the others. If you find hidden Rose, you could be the first. You see, both of her ears, have the colours reversed. Do you know what the word reversed means? When you reverse a car, you go backwards. So if the ears of all the rabbits are grey on the outside and white on the inside, if they were reversed, what colour would they be on the inside? Grey. On the outside, they would be? White. So can you go and find Rose for me, look carefully. Did you find her? There she is. Super work guys. Super looking. Woodpeckers hunt all year round by pecking on trees; it's a widely-known sound. They also drill holes in a trunk, where they rest. Where their babies can hatch and grow up in the nest. William, the woodpecker, loves his sisters and brothers, but William, the woodpecker, is not like the others. Pay close attention! Will's grip is soft firm. He holds in his beak, a fat, wiggly worm. Oh dear I've already shown you where William is. Did you find him? Yes. Now, why is he different? Because he's got a worm in his mouth. Do you know why woodpeckers drill holes in trunks of trees? It's because that's where their rest, for their babies to hatch, well done. Hedgehogs are nocturnal and don't like it bright. They sleep through the day and wake up at night. When a meat-eater comes in the hope of a snack, the hedgehog rolls up with spines on its back. Hannah, the hedgehog, loves her sisters and brothers, but Hannah, the hedgehog, is not like the others. Can you spot spiky Hannah? She's easy to track. 'Cause Hannah is carrying a leaf on her back. So why do hedgehogs roll up and show their spikes? Because when other animals come, they don't want to get eaten. So they roll up so then they won't get eaten because they're all spiky. Do you know what the word nocturnal means? Yes! It means they sleep during the day and they're awake at night when it's nice and quiet. Can you find Hannah with her leaf on her back, and look closely. There she is. Did you find her? Fantastic. Ants work together and never stand still. Thousands of workers fulfil the queen's will. Though ants are so small, they have strength that is great. Who knew an ant carries 50 times its own weight? Anna, the aunt, loves her sisters and brothers, but Anna, the ant, she is not like the others. Look very closely! Your eyes will soon see; Anna, the ant, with antennae three. So antennae are the things that are spiking out of their heads. That sometimes maybe called feelers for some animals. This ant, Anna, she has three antennae. So you need to look really closely for this one. Use your super-magnifying eyes. Can you see her? Anna, the aunt, come out wherever you are? There she is, well done. Raccoons are quite skilled, you will have to agree. Have you ever climbed head-first down a tree? Raccoons wear a mask and a ringed tail that follows. They are active at night and sleep in tree hollows. Ray, the raccoon, loves his sisters and brothers, but Ray, the raccoon, he is not like the others. Go on and find him! If you do, give a shout! Ray's the raccoon with his tongue sticking out. So why are a raccoons so clever? Because when they climb down the tree, they have their head pointing to the ground. Would you ever climb down a tree with your head looking down onto the ground? No, because you'd be scared that you'd hurt your head. Well done. So, look for Ray, the raccoon, with his tongue sticking out. Look carefully. Did you find him? You really do have super eyes if you found Ray, the raccoon. You superstar! Wolves have a family that we call a pack. Their fur colour varies from white to pitch black. They talk to each other with barks and with growls. The wolf's widely-known for its far-reaching howls. Willow, the wolf, loves his sisters and brothers, but Willow, the wolf, she is not like the others. Open your eyes! You'll stay on your toes. Willow, the wolf, has our black, heart-shaped nose. So, when wolves have a family, what's that family called? Yes, it's called a pack. Now what kinds of coloured wolves can you get? There may be white or pitch black. Pitch black means really, really, dark black. So when it's really, really, dark outside, you can say it is pitch black out there. So, Willow has a heart-shaped nose. Can you find her, look closely. Look closely? And here she is. Did you find her? You really are superstars. Well done guys. Mice live in burrows, hidden under the floor with dozens of chambers and their own little store. Despite the large ears and the long, hairless tail, mice are still tiny and look very frail. Molly, the mouse, loves her sisters and brothers, but Molly, the mouse, she is not like the others. If you find Mrs. Tiny, you'll see she's a cutie. 'Cause Molly, the mouse, is a real sleeping beauty. Huh! I've already found Molly, the mouse for you sorry. Did you see her sleeping? Yes, so a hairless tail. What do you think a hairless tail means? Look at it's tail. Yes, it means no hair on its tail. Well done guys. And you, little friend, with your sisters and brothers, are also real special and not like the others. Like Freddy, and Sally, and Bailey, the bear, there's only one you who has your colour hair. Like Derek, the deer, and the rabbit called Rose, there's only one you with that sweet little nose. Like Will, and like Hannah with spines that can rise, there's only one you with your curious eyes. Like Anna, the aunt, and the raccoon known as Ray, there's only one you who talks your special way. Like Willow, the Wolf, and Molly, the mouse, there's only one you here in our house. You are not like the others. There's only one you. To have you in our lives is a dream come true. Looking at the pictures, look at the children. How are they the same? Yes, they are all children. And how are they different? Look closely. Yes, they have different coloured hair. What else is different about them? They have different coloured skin. Anything else? They have different clothes, well done. Look at their eyes, what do you notice? Yes, some of the children are wearing glasses and some the children aren't. Some of the children have round eyes, and some of them are really big and wide. So we have different shaped eyes. Looking at their noses. Some children have pointy noses, and some children have wide noses. So we are all the same because we are all humans. We are all the human race. We all belong to the world, but we all look different. Like in the story, the animals look the same. But when we look closely, they were a little bit different. They had differences in the way they looked. The same way, we are all humans, but we all have differences. We all look different.
