Looks like he's got something in his hand. Let's take a look and see what he has. What do you got there? Oh, Reggie said he has found some shapes! Reggie says he wonders if you know what they are. Let's see if you can name them. I'm going to hold them up to the screen and you can shout out what they are. Are you ready? That's great! I can hear you shouting out the answers Let's take a look together and see what they were. Triangle Square Rectangle And circle Give yourself two claps for joining in. Well done everyone. Oh! I think Reggie's got something else he'd like to say... Reggie says he went on a shape hunt today... He says he wonders if you could take a look at the shapes that he found to see if you could name them. Let's take a look! Here we are. Reggie found a plate it looks like. What shape is the plate? Shout the answer out to the screen if you know! I can hear some of you shouting out the answer. Is it a triangle? I can hear it! That's right, it's a circle! Reggie found a circular plate... A circle. Well done! Let's take a look at what else Reggie found today It looks like Reggie found a tissue. What shape is the tissue? Is it... a circle? I can hear some of you shouting out the answer. The tissue is a rectangle shape. Can you see it? There we are. Reggie was very busy today. And here we are, Reggie found something else! There it is, it's a CD. What shape is the CD? Is it... square? Or is it... circle? Great, the CD is a circular shape. Wow, Reggie you have been very busy today, haven't you? You found a lot of things. Thank you everyone for helping to name the shapes that Reggie found. Now it's time to move on to today's new learning. So for today, we're going to sorting through these shapes using a certain criteria. Here are the things that you are going to need for today's learning. You are going to need a ruler, a coin, a bottle lid, a cracker or you can use a piece of bread, and a piece of tissue. Press pause now to go and get those things and I'll see you in a bit when you're ready. Welcome back everyone! Now that you've got your objects, you are ready for today's learning. Let's take a look at what our star words are today. I'm going to say them and you can say them after me. Are you ready? Side square corner edge circle vertex curved triangle vertices straight rectangle sort and criteria. Those are our star words for today. Now let's take a look at our shapes again. Let's see if we can describe what they look like. So here we are, here's our first shape. It is a triangle. A triangle has one, two, three corners And one, two, three sides. The triangle has three corners and three sides. Can you say that? A triangle has three corners and three sides. That's great! Let's take a look at our next shape. It's square. How many corners does the square have? Can you count them? Shout the answer out to the screen when you know. Right, let's count them together. So the square has one, two, three, four corners and one, two, three, four sides. Square has four corners and four sides, that are the same length. Can you say that? Great everybody, let's take a look at our next shape. It's a circle. A circle has one curved side. One curved side. Can you say that? A circle has one curved side. That's great. Now, move on the our final shape. It's a rectangle. How many sides does a rectangle have? Can you count them and shout the answer out to the screen? I can hear some of you shouting the answer out. That's a great job! It has one, two, three, four sides and one, two, three, four corners. Two sides are longer than the other two sides. Can you describe the rectangle to me? That is great describing everyone. Well done! Give yourselves two claps. Now, let's take a look at what we are going to do with our objects now. We're going to do some sorting. There are different ways that we can sort our objects. Let's take a look. So, here it says "has straight sides" "does not have straight sides" so let's take a look at our first shape which is a circle. Does a circle have straight sides? No, a circle has one curved side. Can you say that? Right, so let's put that here, in the "does not have straight sides". Now, let's look at our next shape. It's a triangle. Does our triangle have a curved side? A triangle doesn't have a curved side. It has straight sides, so we can put our triangle here. Now, let's have a look at our square. Does a square have a curved side? Does a square not have straight sides? A square does have straight sides, it has four straight sides, so we'll put it here, where it says "has straight sides". There we are. So we have sorted some of our shapes into "shapes that have straight sides" and "shapes that do not have straight sides". Now it's your turn. With your objects that you got earlier, your ruler, or your bottle top, your piece of bread or your cracker, or anything else that you might have got to do your activity, I would like to sort your objects into objects that have straight sides and do not have straight sides.
