﻿Hi, my name's Mrs Harris and I'm with you for your maths lesson on ordering sets without counting. Now, I'm sat on the carpet because it gives me a lot more space to do my ordering of sets without counting. So, let's find out what we're going to do today. In this lesson, I'll tell you about ordering sets but really the best way to find out about it, is first of all, to help me order some and then really for you to do it. So, you're going to spend most of the time ordering sets of your very own. So, what you're going to need are some things you can put into sets, I've put some ideas on the screen, maybe some building blocks like I've got here or some wooden ones, maybe you could even use some tins from the cupboard or some cutlery. I also thought, I might use my toy dinosaurs. Really you can do anything, use anything to sort into sets. So, pause the video now and go and find the things that you would like to use. So, here I am on my carpet, ready to do my ordering of sets without counting but you might be sat there thinking, Mrs Harris, what even is a set? Well, a set is a group of similar objects that have been put together for a reason, they've been sorted. I'm going to start by sorting my sets. I'm going to put all my yellow Lego bricks together. I'm going to put my red Lego bricks together and my blue. But at the moment, I still don't know what I have more of and what I have less of because I haven't ordered them. So, I'm going to put my red block there, now I'm going to put my yellow blocks underneath it. Mine looks already, like I have more yellow blocks than I do red blocks. I'll put my blue blocks underneath my yellow, it might be hard to see, they're the same colour as the carpet. I'm not sure that orderings quite right. I really like to start with the fewest and go to greatest, the most. So, I'm going to swap my yellow blocks with my blue blocks because I only have a few more of them than I do red. And I can see now, I have the greatest amount of yellow blocks and I have the fewest amount of red blocks. I can also, because it's Lego, make it into a tower and that would show me how I have the most yellow blocks compared to red blocks. But maybe you didn't want to use Lego, I'll leave that there so we can look at it, maybe you'd like to use one of these, an abacus, maybe you have one of these at home. And on this one, I'm going to order from the greatest to the fewest, least. So, I'm going to put lots and lots of blue over, then I'm going to put a few less red counters, can you see, that pile is not as tall as the blue pile? Now, because I'm trying to order from most to least, when I put my white ones over, I'm going to need to put even less than the red. We're not going to count them, I'm just going to do it while I'm using my eyes. Ooh, does that look right? Have I got less white counters than red counters? I haven't, have I? I better put some back. Does that look better now? Can you see how it's going from most to least, taller to shorter? I got blue again, I'll pop just a few over, they're smaller and now I've got red. I have ordered my sets of counters from most to least, many to few. I'll pop that there as well. Now, maybe you wanted to use the dinosaurs but you'll have to wait, I'm not using them yet, I'm going to use my pebbles. Now, my pebbles are really special, look, they have bugs on and the bugs are all different colours. So, remember my Lego, the first thing I need to do is sort them into sets. So, I'll put all my red ones together, oh, there is just one red one. Then I'll put all my green ones together then all my yellow and then all my blue. Now, I ordered from least to most, from greatest to fewest, I think I'll order from fewest again to most. So, there's my red one, then I'm going to put my green ones directly under that, yep, I've got more green than blue, or more green than red, then I'm going to use my blue ones. Ooh, they're the same, I have the same amount. Now, I'm going to put my yellow ones together. I definitely have the most yellow pebble bugs. Now, that you've seen me order a few sets without counting, I think you are ready to order your own sets. Just remember to line them up and see which you have the most of and which you have the fewest of and decide if you're going to order them from most to fewest, to least, or the other way around. Have a go now and remember to come back to me because when you do, I may just have sorted my dinosaurs. Welcome back. I wonder how you got on with ordering your sets, did you have to sort your objects into sets, first of all? And did you remember to line them up, so you could see which you had the fewest of and which you had the most of and then put them in order, from most to fewest or fewest to most? Now, I started to order my dinosaurs, I got as far as putting them into sets but then I got a bit distracted and started playing with them. Had a bit of a think which was my favourite too and that was the Triceratops. What's your favourite dinosaur? Ooh, interesting. Now, when I was putting them into sets, I didn't just have a play, I put them into size order as well but we're not sorting according to size today, are we? We're sorting according to amount, and first of all, the one I definitely have the least of is the Spinosaurus, so I'm going to put him there. Then, I haven't got very many T-Rex's, so I'm going to put them, this one does not like standing up, he might have to lie down, there. I've got more T-Rex's than I do Spinosauruses. But I'm going to have to move all my lovely Pterodactyl, not Pterodactyl, Triceratops, the Pterodactyl would have flown off, over here. And even though, some of them are a little bit smaller than the T-Rex's, the Stegosauruses come next. I have more Stegosauruses than I do T-Rex's but less than I do Triceratops. So, my triceratops, even though some of them are teenie weenie, are going to come next. Can you see, how I've gone from the fewest to more, to more, to even more? But there's one group of dinosaur over here, who have been waiting so patiently, let me see if I can pop them in. Remember, size, it didn't matter, did it? It's the amount of each one we have. Oh, that doesn't look quite right, I've actually got less Diplodocuses than I do Triceratops, I'll have to swap them around. There we are and you can stand just there and there and there, there and there. Thank you for helping me order my dinosaurs from fewest all the way over the front, to the most at the back. Now, just before we say goodbye, I've got one more problem for you. I think I have ordered my pegs from most to least. Have I? Have I got it right? Have I ordered my pegs from most to least? I haven't, have I? I've made a little mistake but I think, with your help, I can fix it. What do I need to do to fix this? So, I have ordered from most to least. I need to swap my blue pegs for my red pegs, don't I? So, what I like about ordering, and when we're not sticking anything down, is that I can just move them if I make a mistake, like I had done and that you have helped me fix, thank you.
