﻿Hi, everyone. How are you doing today? I'm Miss Mitchell and today in maths we are going to be measuring the length of certain body parts. In today's lesson, you will be completing a talk task, an investigation, and then a quiz. For today's lesson you will need a pencil, some paper, and a tape measure. You also need somebody to help you. Pause the video now to get this, if you have not got it already. Today we're going to be doing an investigation, and you will need somebody to help you. We are going to be measuring different body parts and comparing them, seeing what is the same and what is different. For your talk task, I would like you to measure your arm span and your height. This picture on the left shows your arm span. So your arm span is when you have your arms out straight, and it's the distance between your fingertips on one hand to your fingertips on the other hand. So I would like you to measure your arm span and your height. I did mine earlier and my arm span was 168 centimetres. And my height was 170 centimetres. What do you notice about those two numbers? That's right. They're really nearly the same. I wonder if yours will be the same. So pause the video now to take your arm span and your height measurement. So, as I said earlier, you are going to be doing an investigation, and you're going to be measuring different body parts to see what is the same and what is different. But first let's make a couple of predictions. So predictions are guesses. What do we think is going to happen? So what do you think is going to happen when you add the length of your hand together 10 times? What will happen? What would you notice? Do you think the length from your toe to your heel will be the same as the distance between your elbow and your wrist? Do you think they'll be the same? Measure the distance between your knee and the bottom of your foot, add that number four times. Is it the same measurement as your height? And finally, measure the width of your shoulders. Now add that number together four times. What do you notice? So pause the video now and see whether your predictions are correct by measuring and comparing these body parts. Pause the video now.
