Let's get started and see what we're doing today. So, in today's lesson we're going to answer the following key question. How do we celebrate Guy Fawkes Day? And this is lesson three of three with me, Miss Emms That means that hopefully before completing this lesson and watching this video, you should have had a go at watching videos one and two, so that you're prepared for this learning. We have learned about Guy Fawkes and what happens on the 5th of November, 1605. And today we're going to learn about how we celebrate Guy Fawkes Day and why we do as well. So here is our agenda. We're going to start off with some Star Words, before moving on to thinking about why we celebrate Guy Fawkes Day. After this, we'll have a think about bonfire nights and what bonfire nights looks like in around the country. And then we're going to have a think about what do people do to celebrate. So, what's the traditions, what do people do when they are celebrating bonfire night? Finally, it will be time for your end of lesson quiz to see what you've been able to remember from, from the learning in this lesson. Okay, you'll need three things in this lesson. You'll need some paper. You'll need a pencil and you'll need your brain. Your brain is already here and it's ready to go, it's ready to do some thinking. You probably heard the word celebrate before. You may have a party to celebrate your birthday, or if you celebrate any other important holidays, you may do some special things to celebrate. The next Star Word is Guy Fawkes Day. Your turn. We know that Guy Fawkes was caught on the 5th of November, 1605. So that is when we celebrate Guy Fawkes Day. We'll have a think about that in closer detail, later on in the lesson. And finally bonfire nights. Your turn. Lots of people celebrate Guy Fawkes Day with bonfire nights. And we're going to think about what they do later on in the lesson as well. So, some recap questions to make sure we're thinking hard about our learning from previous lessons. Why was the plan revealed? Was it because the conspirators were too loud? The plan was revealed to an important political person? Or one of the conspirators was nervous and exposed the plan? That means they let someone know about the plan because they were really worried and nervous. Can you put your finger, on the option that you think is correct. Off you go. You're right. It was option two. And if you didn't get option two, let's have a think about that now. The plan was revealed to an important political person, and they were able to stop the conspiracy from going ahead. Okay, the next recap question question, I would like you to pause the video to complete the task. What happens to Guy Fawkes? Guy Fawkes was sent... Where was he sent when he was caught? I would like you to tell your screen Guy Fawkes was sent. Right. Guy Fawkes was sent to jail, or to prison for what he has done. Okay. So why do we celebrate Guy Fawkes Day? When we set a celebrate Guy Fawkes Day, what we are celebrating, and the people who choose to celebrate, what they are celebrating is the safety of King James the first. Okay. And here you can see on your screen, a picture of King James the first. He was not killed as had intended by Guy Fawkes, and the rest of the plotters. He was not killed. The conspiracy was not successful. Okay, so he remains safe and he was not killed by Guy Fawkes and the rest of the conspirators. That is what we are celebrating, what we're commemorating or remembering, when we celebrate Guy Fawkes Day. So, a quick task for you. Can you pause the video to complete this task? We celebrate Guy Fawkes day because we're celebrating the safety of King James, or because King James was not killed. You might have said because the Gunpowder Plot was not successful. Okay. We thought about why, and now we're moving on to think about when. Guy Fawkes Day is often celebrated by having a bonfire night. So people often use those two terms interchangeably. That means they might say bonfire night, when we're thinking about how we celebrate Guy Fawkes Day. So often people celebrate Guy Fawkes Day with bonfire night. And you can see a picture there of a big bonfire. And we celebrate on the 5th of November. I wonder if you know why it's on the 5th of November every year. Can you tell your screen, I think it's because... Right, well done. When do we celebrate Guy Fawkes Day? Some people choose to celebrate Guy Fawkes Day every year on the 5th of November. This is because we are commemorating the failure of the Gunpowder Plot on the 5th of November, 1605. And commemorating means when you do something to remember something that's happened. Okay. So we are marking, remembering, commemorating the failure of the Gunpowder Plot, which happened, or didn't happen on the fifth of November 1605. And because it happened on the 16th of the 5th of November 1605. That's why some people choose to celebrate it every year, on the 5th of November to mark this occasion. So, I would like you to quickly pause your video, and you're going to write down the answer to this question, or you can choose to say it to your screen either is fine. We celebrate Guy Fawkes Day on the? Go pause now. Right, we celebrate Guy Fawkes Day on the 5th of November. So, now we're going to have a think about bonfire nights. And you might have heard of bonfire night before. You're not, if you have. So some people celebrate Guy Fawkes Day by lighting a bonfire and gathering with other people. And remember, we thought carefully about why we do this to commemorate the failure of the Gunpowder Plot. Let's have a think about what activities and what traditions people have to celebrate bonfire nights. The first is that people watch fireworks. Okay. And you may have seen fireworks for other special occasions, or perhaps you've been to a bonfire night celebration where you have seen fireworks in the sky. That's the first thing that people do to celebrate bonfire night. People also burn, sometimes people burn, a straw Guy Fawkes on a bonfire. So a model, a straw model of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire. That's the second thing that people do to commemorate or to celebrate on finite to commemorate Guy Fawkes not succeeding in his plot. Okay, so just to recap, we had what watching fireworks that have been lit, and burning a straw Guy Fawkes on a bonfire. The third thing is that people use sparklers. That's another tradition, that's something else that happens on bonfire night. We've got three things that people do so far. I wonder if we can remember them so far. The first one was watching fireworks. The second one, was burning a straw Guy Fawkes on a bonfire. And the third one was using sparklers. Goodness, you are so good at remembering. Well done. And the fourth one is eating some special foods. And these special foods may vary, but you might often find that people eat Toffee apples. So apples that have toffee coated around them and Jacket potatoes to celebrate bonfire nights. So Toffee apples, and Jacket potatoes, What do people eat? Amazing. Okay, there were four things that the people do to celebrate bonfire nights. I want you to pause the video and have a little think about what those four words in your head before we answer the next question. So what were the four ways? Get them ready in your head? People. What do people do to celebrate bonfire nights? Always put them in your head. Pause the video now. Right? Well done. I now want you to write those four ways down and then we're going to check them through after you've had to go. So you're going to write one, two, three and four, and you don't have to underline your answers. That's to show you that you're probably writing on the lines, and you're going to write down the four ways in which people celebrate bonfire nights. It would be even better if you could start off each sentence by saying, to celebrate bonfire nights, people... And then you're going to write down your four ways in which people celebrate bonfire night. Okay. If you're finding it hard and you can't quite remember, don't worry at all.
