﻿Hi, and welcome to today's lesson: Dress to impress. Our learning objective today is to understand that people dress differently. Hi, and welcome to today's lesson. I'm Miss Waka and I'm going to be your teacher today. What's your name? Oh, hi there. In today's lesson, you will need your looking eyes, your listening ears, some different materials and some clothes but make sure you ask a parent or carer before you use any of the materials at home. What is clothing? Clothing are pieces of material that you put on your body to cover yourself. Lots of people wear lots of different clothes. What are you wearing today? Are you wearing your jeans? Are you wearing a dress? Are you wearing a T-shirt or are you wearing a jumper? Clothing from other countries for men. Tribal wear is worn in Africa but it's not worn on a daily basis. It's only worn for special occasions. Native Americans wear very colourful clothing. The feathers show that he is a male leader. Men in India wear the baggy trousers. They're called the dhoti. Can you say dhoti? Excellent. Clothing from other countries for women. We have a sari. Look at that beautiful pink material draped around that lady. Women from around the world wear saris, particularly in Asian countries due to their heritage and how it's been passed down through generations from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and even Nepal. They wear saris on a daily basis because that's their traditional clothing. Suits are worn by females too as formal wear. The long black cloak and the scarf that that lady's wearing is called an abaya. Can you say it? Abaya. Abayas are usually worn by women from Saudi Arabia but lots of Muslims around the country will wear the abaya. The traditional wedding dress is worn by people from around the world. People in England, Africa, America, Australia would wear the traditional white wedding dress. People from India or with Indian heritage or Asian heritage, which means with their family coming from India or Pakistan, they wear red or golden wedding dresses, traditional wedding dresses that are very embroidered with lots of gold and lots of sequins and jewels. It depends on your tradition and what you want to wear on your wedding. To dress, you can use lots of different materials. I have got some scarves that I found at home. Make sure you ask an adult, your parent or carer if you can borrow them though. So I'm going to start off. I wonder if you can guess. I'm going to wrap this around here. Oh, thank you. And I want it to be here. This part I'm going to tuck in at the back. And I'm going to up and over. Oh, what do you think. It's a sari. For you next dress, you can use some toilet roll, a bin bag and some scissors but make sure you ask a parent or carer to supervise because scissors are sharp. Now, the bin bag is stuck together up here. I want to put my model's head through here. So I'm going to have to cut it to make a hole for her head to go through. And then, some more for her arms. Let's see if this fits, shall we? Oh. Your task today is to dress like somebody from another country. First, choose who you would like to dress like. Next, use your materials to experiment. Try different outfits. Then ask people in your household if they can guess where you are from and if they like your outfit. I would love to see some pictures of you with your outfits on.
