﻿Hi, everyone. My name is Mr. Palekar, and welcome back to music. This is our final lesson on percussion. Now, in today's lesson, we are going to recap the beatboxing basics from last lesson and our first beatboxing rhythm. We are going to develop the beatboxing sounds, and we are going to compose and perform our very own beatboxing rhythm. Now, you will need for this lesson, some headphones, if you have some. Don't worry if you don't. Just make sure that you are somewhere quiet where you can practise music. You'll need a pencil and paper if you'd like to take any notes, and you will need your hands, your bodies and your voices as well. Let's get started, first of all, with a message from Shlomo. Now, after all of your hard work last lesson and all of your practise outside of lesson, I want to bring you someone who is in the know about beatboxing, an international beatboxing artist, and one of my friends called Shlomo. Here's a little message from him.

This is S. K. Shlomo, the world record breaking beatboxer, world looping champion and collaborated with people like Ed Sheeran and Bjork and Rudimental, Lily Allen, people like that. I've been so lucky to be able to do that and to take the music I make with my voice and turn it into a form of expression. So, yeah, I just wanted to send you guys a little video of encouragement and the one piece of advice I give you is to speak your voice. You are different to every single human being on this planet. Okay, so last lesson, we were looking at the kick drum, the high hat and the snare. Let's recap each of those sounds. Here we go. So we've got our kick drum. You'll remember that is letter P, and we want to say it with power, okay? Let's see if we can loosen up our face. So can we give ourselves a sad face? And we are going to do that whole sound, that Out of the side of our mouth. Ready? One, two, three, here we go. Now you've got to look much, much sadder. Cool. One, two, three, here we go. Stop. Okay. Let's see if we can say that letter P with power. One, two, three. Here we go. One more time. Ready. Here we go. Even more power. Here we go. Good. So, we've got our letter P which is our kick drum. Let's check out our high hat. Our high hat's the easier of the sounds. It's our letter T. Ready? One, two, three. Here we go.

And again. Be careful that we don't make it lazy. We want to make sure that it is nice and crisp. So Not Our mouth has got to be nice and tight for this setup. Here we go. Good. Okay. So we've got our kick drum, and we've got our high hat. High hat has the letter T. Okay, so we've got the snare, which is our final sound. And our snare was our round drum with metal strings, I would call it, underneath, which has a slightly metallic sound, and for that we have the letter K. We've got to imagine our K to have lots of H's after so it sounds like this. Try it. One, two, three. Here we go. Good. Make it really, really short, and put your hand on your stomach to make sure that our stomach goes in a little bit. So it goes Ready? One, two, three, four. And again, here we go. And again, here we go. Good stuff. Okay. So we've got our P, we've got our T, and we have our K. Together, we can do our rhythm from last lesson. Now, if you need to, pause the video and practise any of those sounds. You can pause the video now, and make sure you've got those sounds absolutely perfect before we move on. Otherwise, here is our rhythm from last lesson. So we have our P, T, K, T. Let's say our rhythm first, ready? One, two, three, four times. P, T, K, T, P, T, K, T, P, T, K, T, P, T, K, T. Stop. Good, we're going to add the P with a Two three, here we go. Puh, T, K, T Puh, T, K, T, Puh, T, K, T, Puh, T, K, T. One more time. Ready. Here we go. Puh, T, K, T. Puh, T, K, T. Puh, T, K, T. Puh, T, K, T. Very good. Now let's add in those other sounds. So we've got And we've got our Don't forget our It's going to to be nice and short and very powerful. Ready? From the beginning. We have got our rhythm, our beatboxing rhythm, that goes all the way through and we're going to do it as an ostinato. Do remember that word? Ostinato. It's a short pattern of music that goes over and over and over and over and over again. Let's do it four times in a row, and then we'll stop. One, two, three. Here we go. Freeze. Good. Well done. Now, just like last lesson, if you need to stop and you need to practise, make sure you pause the video and do that now. Try to get each sound as clear as you can and use lots of energy. And once you've got them, got each sound exactly how you want it to sound, have a go at our beatboxing rhythm. We are going to develop them even further so that we can make our beatboxing even better, okay? So we are going to look into our first technique, which is called double tonguing. Now we're going to take our sound of our high hat and we're going to double it. So it sounds like this, ti-ka. Can you just say ti-ka? Your turn. Ti-ka. Good. We can say four times in a row. Ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka. Ready, your turn. Here we go. Ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka. Freeze. Good. But instead of just saying it, we're going to whisper it. Ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka. Try it. One, two, three, here we go. Ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka. Good. It sounds like this. Ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka. Try it. One, two, three, here we go. Ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka. One more time. Here we go. Ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka. One more time. Here we go. Ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka, ti-ka. Good. Now for our piece, for our beatboxing, we want to make sure that we can say ti-ka, ti-ka. You can try that with me, just two times. One, two, three. Go. Ti-ka, ti-ka. One more time. Ready? Here we go. Ti-ka, ti-ka. Good. Now, make sure that you are not doing this in a lazy way. We don't want to go ti-ka, ti-ka. 'Cause it sounds not so good. And I know you can do ti-ka, ti-ka. So big ti-ka, ti-ka with a lot of force there out of your mouth. Ti-ka, ti-ka. Keeping it short and crisp. Ti-ka, ti-ka. Ready? One, two, three, here we go. Ti-ka, ti-ka. Freeze. Ready. One more time. Ready. Here we go. Ti-ka, ti-ka. Good. Pause the video now so that you can practise whispering ti-ka, ti-ka. And remember to try and to make every single sound as clear as you can. Ti-ka, ti-ka, P, K. So, let's try it really slowly. We're going to say it first. So, not with our beatboxing sounds, just with our letters and our vowels and our syllables. Okay. My turn first. P, T, K, ti-ka, ti-ka, P, K. Can you say it? Ready? Here we go. P, T, K, ti-ka, ti-ka, P, K. Very good. One more time. Ready. Here we go. P, T, K, ti-ka, ti-ka, P, K. Now, let's start to add in our beatboxing sounds. The only sound that we're going to start with is our ti-ka, ti-ka. Remember that you whisper it and you keep it nice and short. Ti-ka, ti-ka. So we're going to say P, T, K, ti-ka, ti-ka, P, K. Ready? One, two, three. Here we go. P, T, K, ti-ka, ti-ka, P, K. Good. One more time. Ready, off we go. P, T, K, ti-ka, ti-ka, P, K. Good. Okay, so we've done our double tonguing, our ti-ka ti-ka. Great, but there's an extra challenge for you as well. If you feel like you've mastered your P, T, K and ti-ka, ti-ka P, K. It's called moving from our ti-ka ti-ka, our double tonguing to our ti-ka-ta, and that's called triple tonguing. Can you say ti-ka-ta? My turn first and then your turn. Ti-ka-ta. Ti-ka-ta. Ti-ka-ta. Good. Let's say it four times in a row. One, two, three. Here we go. Ti-ka-ta, ti-ka-ta, ti-ka-ta, ti-ka-ta. Good. And our ti-ka-ta is a short link between the end of our beatboxing rhythm and back round to the beginning, ti-ka-ta. That's how fast it is, ti-ka-ta. Let's try saying ti-ka-ta after three... after four, sorry. One, two, three, four. Ti-ka-ta. Two, three, four, ti-ka-ta. Two, three, here we go. Ti-ka-ta. Two, three, four, ti-ka-ta, two, three, and stop. Good. Our ti-ka-ta though, just like our ti-ka, ti-ka, we whisper it, and we put force into each of the ti-ka, ti-ka-ta as we whisper. It sounds like this. Ti-ka-ta, ti-ka-ta, ti-ka-ta. It's got three syllables, ti-ka-ta. Try it with me. One, two, three, four. Ti-ka-ta. Two, three, here we go. Ti-ka-ta. Two, three, here we go. Ti-ka-ta. Two, three, one more time. Ti-ka-ta. Two, three, last time. Ti-ka-ta. Good. Well done. That's called triple tonguing, ti-ka-ta. Let's put it into our rhythm so far. So we have our P, T, K, ti-ka, ti-ka, P, K, but at the end of that, you can take a breath in, back into our P, T, K, ti-ka, ti-ka, P K. P, T, K. Sometimes you might want to add in a ti-ka-ta at the end. So it sounds like this. P, T, K ti-ka ti-ka, P, K, ti-ka-ta, P, T, K ti-ka ti-ka, P, K, ti-ka-ta, P. Okay? Let's try it, if we can say it four times. If you need to take a breath before the start of that P, T, K, right at the beginning, you can skip out the ti-ka-ta and take a breath in. So P, T, K, ti-ka, ti-ka, P, K, P If you want to put that ti-ka-ta in, try it now. I'm going to challenge you to put it in at least once. One, two, three, here we go.
