Reggie and I have been busy making patterns today. Reggie, would love to show you one of the patterns that he made. His pattern goes a little bit like this, ♪ Clap, clap ♪ ♪ Nod, nod, nod ♪ ♪ Clap, clap ♪ ♪ Nod, nod, nod ♪ ♪ Clap, clap ♪ ♪ Nod, nod, nod ♪ ♪ Now you've made a pattern ♪ Well done, Reggie. Did you notice how many times Reggie nodded his head each time? Shout your answer out to the screen if you know. Great, Reggie nodded his head three times. Nod, nod, nod, Clap, clap, clap. Well done, Reggie. Reggie and I made a pattern together. Our pattern goes a little bit like this. ♪ Clap, clap ♪ ♪ Nod, nod, nod ♪ ♪ Clap, clap ♪ ♪ Nod, nod, nod ♪ ♪ Clap, clap ♪ ♪ Nod, nod, nod ♪ ♪ Now we've made a pattern. ♪ ♪ Did you notice how many times ♪ Reggie and I clapped hands together each time? Well done, Reggie and well done to you at home for counting, give yourselves two claps, Great jobs. Now for today we're going to be learning, how to describe 3D shapes. For our learning today here are some of the objects, that you're going to need. You might find these around your home. You'll need, a tin, looks a little bit like this, you'll need a cereal box, or another box that's very similar to this, you also need a ball, any kind of ball will be absolutely fine, a cone, I've got an ice cream cone here, but you might have a different cone that's similar to this, that's absolutely fine, and a round piece of fruit or vegetable. Press Pause now to go and get those things, and I'll see you in a bit when you're ready. Welcome back everyone, now that you've got your objects you're ready for today's learning. Let's take a look at our star words. I'm going to say them and you can say them after me. Are you ready? Curved edge, straight edge, curved face, flat face, vertex, vertices, same, different, and face. Those are our star words for today. Now, let's take a look at our first 3D shape. Our first 3D shape is called a sphere. I wonder what a sphere looks like. Do you know? Let's take a look, here it is. A sphere has one curved face. One curved face. Can you say that a sphere has one curved face. Great job everybody. Well done, that's our sphere. Let's take a look at our next shape. I wonder if you can guess what I'm going to show you on the screen. It's a cube, here it is. A cube has flat faces. A cube has flat faces. Let's count how many flat faces the cube has, one, two, three, four, five, six. A cube has six flat faces. Can you say that? A cube has six flat faces. Excellent, well done everybody. Now, let's have a look at how many vertices it has. We can count them together. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight A cube has eight vertices, can you say that? Well done, you're doing a great job at this. Let's have a look at our next shape. Here it is. It's called a cylinder, and here is our cylinder. A cylinder has two flat faces, one at the top, and one at the bottom, and a curved face. So a cylinder has two flat faces, one at the top and one at the bottom and a curved face. Can you say that a cylinder has two flat faces, and one curved face. Excellent job everybody, you're doing amazing, and let's take a look at our next shape. I wonder if you can read what it is. It's a cone. Here is our cone. A cone has one curved face, can you see that? It keeps going all the way around, one curved face. A cone also has a flat face at the bottom. now I have shown you an ice cream cone, and here is our shape, so you can see it. One curved face and a flat face at the bottom. Can you say that a cone has one curved face, and a flat face at the bottom. Great, it also has a vertex right here which is a special one. It's a pointy top. One vertex right at the top. well done everybody, you're doing a great job. Now let's have a look at our last shape, here it is. It's called a cuboid and I'm going to show it to you here. A cuboid has flat faces. Shall we count them? One, two, three, four, five, six. A cuboid has six flat faces, can you say that? Great, let's have a look at the faces, so one, two, three, four of the faces are long and two of them are shorter. so a cuboid has four long faces and two short faces, can you say that? Well done everybody give yourselves a pat in the back for great joining in. Now here's what we're going to do, we're going to have a look at two of our 3D shapes, so we've got our cube, and we've got our sphere. Our cube has a flat face, top here, so our cube has flat faces, and our sphere has one round face. They are different. Our sphere doesn't have any vertices but our cube does, they are different. Let's take a look at two of our other 3D shapes, so a cylinder has one curved face and so does our cone, so they have criteria that's the same. A cone has a curved face and a cylinder has one curved face. Here's what you're going to do, have a look at your 3D objects that you found around your home, let's see. Take a look at your cereal box and your ball. Have a look at the things that are similar or different. Does your cereal box have a curved face? Does your ball have any vertices? Have a look at the similarities and differences between your 3D shapes, and I'll see you again next time.
