So, for today we are learning to compare two groups of objects using the language of more and fewer. Here's what you're going to need. You will need two number tracks. Oh, there's one upside down. Two number tracks, up to 10. And you'll also need 10 objects for counting. Press pause now to go and get those things and I'll see you in a bit when you're ready. Welcome back everyone. Now that you've got your objects for counting and your number tracks you're ready for today's learning. Let's take a look at our star words. I am going to say them and then you can say them all to me. Are you ready? Here we go. More, fewer, same, different, is equal to, and compare. Those are our star words for today. Now to help us with our learning I've got a picture that I'm going to show you. You'll have to do some careful looking at this picture. Here it is. It's a carriage on a train. Let's take a look and see what we can see. How many people can you see in the carriage? Shout out your answer when you know. Excellent. Let's count them together. One, two, three, four, five. There are five people in the carriage. Let's take a look at the people. What do you notice about the people sitting in the carriage? Shout out some of your suggestions to the screen. Hmm, I can hear lots of suggestions. Let's see how we can describe them using the language of groups. So let's see if we can find two groups of people in the carriage. Well, let's start here. How many girls can you see? I can hear somebody shouting the answer. Let's take a look. One, two, there are two girls. I'm going to use cubes to represent the girls. There we are. How many boys can you see? Shout out the answer when you know. Great. Let's use cubes to represent the boys. One, two, and three. There we are. So there are one, two girls, and one, two, three boys. Let's put these here. Just like this so we can see them. One underneath the other. The orange cubes represent the girls and the green cubes represent the boys. Here are our two groups. There are more boys than there are girls. There are fewer girls than boys. Two, one two. Is fewer than three, one, two, three. One, two, three. Two is fewer than three. There are fewer girls than there are boys. Thank you for that everybody. That was great helping. Let's take a look at the picture again. How else can we sort our passengers into groups? Can you shout out a suggestion? I can hear a lot of suggestions about how we can sort our passengers. There are a few comparisons we can make. Let's take a look and see if you can help me with this. This little boy is wearing a scarf. So we're going to put the green cube here to represent children wearing a scarf. Is anybody else wearing a scarf? Yes or no, shout out your answer to the screen. There isn't anybody else wearing a scarf. So we're going to put all of the people not wearing the scarf with blue cubes. One, two, three, four. So we've got one passenger wearing a scarf, and one, two, three, four passengers not wearing a scarf. Let's have a look and see if we can use our number tracks to help us this time. To sort our groups. There we are. See if we can see all of that. I think we can. So, we're going to put our one passenger here. Who's wearing a scarf. And our four passengers here, that are not wearing a scarf. There we are. Let's put them up here a bit so we can see them. One is less than four. One is fewer than four. There are more passengers not wearing a scarf than passengers wearing a scarf. There are fewer passengers wearing a scarf than there are passengers who are not wearing a scarf. Well done everyone, that was great helping. Now, it's going to be your turn. Let's take a look at this picture. Here is another carriage on the train. There are quite a few passengers on this train. Do you think you can count them? Have a go and shout the answer out to the screen. Did you manage to count them? Let's see if we can do it together. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12. There are 12 passengers in this carriage. It's your job now to have a go and see if you can sort the passengers into groups. How can you sort them? Let's take a look. I'm going to leave this picture on the screen. See if you can sort them and see if you can compare the groups. Press pause now to have a go at doing that. So I've noticed that there are some passengers holding a bag. Can you see them? Let's see if we can sort them together. So there's one, two, three, four, passengers with a bag. Here we are. One, two, three, four passengers with a bag. Everybody else is not carrying a bag. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight passengers are not carrying a bag. Here's a question for you. Is eight more or fewer than four? Shout out your answer to the screen if you know. I could hear some of you shouting out the answer. Why don't you have a go at working that out using your number tracks and your objects? See if you can see if eight is more or fewer than four. Let's take a look again. I'll leave that here to help you. You can have a go at putting some objects on your number track to represent the other people that don't have a bag.
