﻿Hello everyone, and welcome to today's lesson. Today's lesson is called Christmas Bottle Blowers. And today we are going to be making and playing some bottle blowers. And we're going to find out exactly what they are a little bit later on. And we are going to be playing a well-known Christmas song, "Jingle bells". Now for this lesson, you will need some resources. I'll tell you a little bit more about what you need later on in the video, and you will have plenty of time to gather those, and get ready to make. Okay, I will see you in the next section of the video. Okay, everybody welcome to the start of our lesson. And today, like I said before, we are learning about Christmas Bottle Blowers. And we are going to be making them, we are going to be playing them, and we are going to be learning four different parts of our well-known Christmas song "Jingle Bells". Now parents and carers can support your young person, with making the instrument, and learning how to play it correctly, 'cause that's going to be a little bit tricky. You will need some resources for today's lesson. I will let you know what they are a little bit later on, and you can pause the video to go and gather those resources until you're ready to make your instrument. Okay, and before we do that, we have a listening task, Jingle Bells, which instruments sounds like bells? Number one, number two, or number three? Thumbs up when you hear the bells, here we go. Let's see if I can make this work. Mm, were that bells? Let's listen to number two. Ooh, and number three. Ah, fantastic, three wonderful pieces of music there. But which one was it? So thumbs up, it was number two. Number two were the bells. I hope you all managed to get your thumbs up on number two at home. This is very important because "Jingle Bells" wouldn't be "Jingle Bells" without some bells. Okay, everyone now is the time to gather your resources for Christmas bottle blowers. And for today's session, you will need some coloured pens, a pen to write with, some scrap paper, some water, five glass bottles, sellotape, and a measuring jug. So pause the video, gather all the resources you need, and resume the video to begin making your Christmas bottle blowers. Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Let's Make section of our lesson. So now we're going to look at making our bottle blowers. And here they are, and I've done these earlier. They look fantastic, but let's talk through how we're going to do it. Here is an example bottle. I'm going to show you how we can do this. So for this Let's Make video, you should already have a selection of five empty glass bottles, and they might have labels on. So you will need to soak them in some warm water, and make sure you get a parent or carer to help you do this so you can soak the labels off. And once they're off at nice and dry, you'll need to get your coloured pens, and some paper, and some sellotape. You also need to use some scissors. And again, please be careful when you use scissors, they are sharp, and make sure you have a parent or carer to help you do it. Okay, so once you've done that, you will need to label each bottle with a letter. C, D, E, F, and G. And then stick them on just like I've done here, and we'll need to play them, place them in that order. But how do we get different notes? That's a good question. Here's my example bottle, and I have a jug of water. I've also put a tea towel or something similar underneath so you don't get water everywhere. Let's have a look at what happens when we pour water into the bottle blower. But first, how do we play them? So we're going to put our lips together as if we're going to whistle, and blow. And we're going to blow just across the top of the bottle like this. Mm, it might take a few goes, but make sure you keep trying. And you get a nice, clear sound. Very good, it's a nice deep sound that one. Let's see what happens when we pour some water in. Pour, pour, pour. I don't think I even spilled any. Let's listen to it again. Uh-huh, the pitch is getting higher. Let's try some more water. Let's try again. Ha, even higher. Let's put the last of the water in. Oh no, I spilled some. Nevermind, it's on my tea towel. Wow, the pitch changes the wall water I put in the higher it gets, fantastic. I'm going to set these to one side. There we go. So now let's look at our set of bottle blowers, C, D, E, F, G. Mm. Now the first one, I haven't put any water in it at all. And depending on the size of your bottle, you may need to put a little bit in. So I'm going to play each one of these in turn, and you're going to put some water in, or pour some water out, and try and get the same note, okay? And you can pause this video as much as you like and play along with me. Here we go, here's our C. See if you can get your note to sound like this. I'll do it again. That's our C. Here's D, it's difficult to see, but there's a little bit of water in there, maybe two centimetres or so. Here's D. Yeah. E, there's even more water in this one. I'll play it so you can match the note F, even more water The note's higher. And lastly, G. Now, like I said before, you can pause the video and rewind it so you can get each note sounding the same as me. Here's what they sound like one after the other. Fantastic. Let's try it the other way. Fantastic, now it might take a little bit of time because this is quite tricky, but like I said, you can pause it as much as you like, try and get each note to sound similar, or the same as me. And then you'll be ready to move on to the Let's Play section of our video. Hello, and welcome to the first part of our Let's Play video for bottle blowers. Now you'll see, I've got my bottles lined up, C, D, E, F, and G. And I have this piece of paper in front of me. You can pause the video and see it on your screen. Now in each box on our piece of paper there's a letter. And the letter should match one of the bottles. So every time there's a letter, we're going to blow one of our bottles of the same letter. So E, E, E, E, E, E, E. Ha, lots of E's to start. That should be nice and straightforward, okay. And this is the first part of our song, "Jingle Bells". Let me see if I can play it. Here we go. Oh, that's tricky. Now you can pause the video, and spend some time practising Section A, and I'll see you for the next part. Okay, everyone, now it's time to play Section B. Oh, I had to look 'cause I forgot. So Section B, there's lots of different letters, but they still match the bottles that we've got. Let's have a look. F, F, F, F, F, E, E, E, E, E, D, D, E, D, G. And again, you can pause the slide on your video, and watch this on your phone, tablet, or computer. Okay, let me have a go at Section B. Section B, again, it's tricky, but you can always pause the video, and spend some time to practise Session B at home, and I'll see you for the next part. Okay, everyone, it's time to practise and play Section C. Now if you're very clever, you may notice that Section C and Section A are the same. So let's have a go. You may have practised this already. Here we go. Ah, I like Section C, and it is the same as section A. But you can always pause the video again to practise Section A, B, and C. And I'll see you for the final part. Okay everyone, now it's time to practise and play the final part of our song, section D. So we've got lots of letters here. Let's just go ahead and see what it sounds like. Ah, that's section D, fantastic. So as always, you can pause the video and practise Section D and even A, B and C as well until you can play it all the way through. So we're going to have a go at playing all the different parts we've learned to play our song, "Jingle Bells". Section A, Section B, Section C, and Section D all at the same time.
