﻿Hi, everybody. My name is Mr. Palekar and welcome to Music. I'm very excited to be joining you on our journey of musical adventure and in this unit, we're going to be focusing, we're going to be looking at the world of body percussion, starting today with the basics. In this lesson, we are going to be doing a warmup, which is called Clap the Rhythm. We are going to explore what body percussion actually is. We're going to find out what it means, and we are going to do a very quick game called Don't Clap This One Back. And finally, we are going to learn our very first body percussion piece. Now for this lesson, you will need some headphones, but if you don't have any headphones, don't panic. Just make sure that you are somewhere where you can concentrate and not be disturbed by others. Somewhere that you can focus. You will need a pencil and paper. If you would like to make any notes, if it will help you to remember. And finally, you will need your hands and your bodies and yourselves, very, very important for body percussion. Let's get started. Clap the Rhythm, warm up. Now for this warm up, it sounds a little bit like this. Take a listen. Clap, clap clap the rhythm. Clap the rhythm with me. Clap, clap clap the rhythm clap the rhythm with me. Pat, pat pat the rhythm pat the rhythm with me. Pat, pat pat the rhythm, pat the rhythm with me. Click click click the rhythm, click the rhythm with me. Pretty easy enough but let's give it a go. The words are clap, clap clap the rhythm, clap the rhythm with me, but we speak it in rhythm. We chant it in rhythm. It sounds like this, my turn and then your turn. Clap, clap clap the rhythm clap the rhythm with me. Your turn. Clap, clap clap the rhythm clap the rhythm with me. My turn. Clap, clap clap the rhythm, clap the rhythm with me, here we go. Clap, clap clap the rhythm, clap the rhythm with me. Very good, lovely, let's change it. Let's change it to click. I'm going to see if I can do one my turn and then your turn. So my turn first and then your turn, but be very aware that I'm going to change up. So I might start with clapping and move to patting, then clicking, then tapping and you need to be thinking really really fast and then doing it when it's your turn. My turn first, ready? So what is body percussion? Body percussion, well, let's break it down into those words, body and percussion. Let's start with that strange word, percussion, percussion, percussion, percussion is any musical item that you can hit. That could be your table. It could be your glass. It could be your rhino, although that doesn't really make much of a sound. It could be a mouse. It could be anything that you could tap or scrape against each other even your hands. That's what percussion is. Percussion isn't using your voice. It's not making sounds out of your voice. Body, you know what your body is, your body is, well it's you. So let's stick those two words together. Body and percussion. Body percussion is when we make sounds by tapping or clicking or clapping or scraping different parts of our own bodies. Now some examples might include things that we've done already. So clapping, patting, snapping, clicking, or even stomping as well. But I think you can probably think of one or two other ways that we can make some sound as well. Here is our first game. It's called Don't Clap This One Back! Now some of you might remember the rules if you have played this before, but let's go through it one more time. There is a rhythm that you are unable, you cannot clap. If you hear it, it's called our forbidden rhythm and forbidden just means don't clap this rhythm. And it sounds like this, don't clap this one back. Now, if you hear that rhythm, don't clap whatsoever. I'll clap it again so you can hear it. Don't clap this one back. I'm going to do it again, but this time I'm going to whisper the words. So you can hear the rhythm. don't clap this one back. This time I'm going to say it in my head, so you can just hear the rhythm. If you hear that rhythm, do not clap, because if you do clap, I get the points. But if you stop, when you hear that, if you hear and you stop, you can put your hands behind your back then you can have the points. Any other time that I clap a rhythm, for example because that's not the forbidden rhythm, then you clap it back. Let's go for it. Here we go. Are you ready? Did you clap? I hope you didn't that was our forbidden rhythm. If you did clap that's a point to me. Here we go. Round two. Did you hear the rhythm? Hopefully you have your hands behind your back because you realise that is don't clap this one back. Let's change it up a little bit. I'm going to move that rhythm to maybe a body part. So it could be that the don't clap this one back is here. don't clap this one back or even don't clap this one back, or even don't tap this one back. So you need to concentrate even harder. Here we go. Hands on the ready. Did you clap it back? Hopefully not I think you probably did a really good job and have your hands at the back of your back, behind your back. Here we go next round and make it a little bit harder. Did you clap that rhythm? That was don't clap this one back. Don't clap this one back. If you patted there, it is a point to me. If not, it is a point to you. Here we go. Next rounds. A little bit harder now. That was all forbidden rhythm. Don't clap this one back. Now I know that isn't a clap, but it is a don't click this one back. It's got the same rhythm. Last around and I'm going to make this a little bit trickier. So this time, how I don't clap this one back might be on different parts. So you might hear don't clap this one back or don't clap this one back or it could be a different combination or pattern. Here we go. Last round for you experts. Here we go. One, two off we go. Great job if you didn't clap, that was our forbidden rhythm, our rhythm that we are not meant to clap. So the words of booms snap clap are on the screen. It goes, boom snap clap boom boom, snap clap snap boom snap clap boom boom, snap shh! My turn and then your turn. My turn. Boom snap clap. Ready? Off you. and boom snap clap. Good. My turn. I go, boom snap clap boom boom. Ready? Off you go. Boom snap clap boom boom. My turn. Boom snap clap boom boom, snap clap snap. Ready, your turn off we go.
