﻿Hi, I'm really looking forward to our lesson today. I hope you are too. Before we get started, this is just a little reminder. We're here to support any approaches you might already be using, and any work you might have already been set. We know that this lesson is going to be going out to so many different children and families. So if you're not sure about anything or have any questions, then please do contact your usual therapy team. Hi, today we're going to learn all about dribbling a ball using our hands and our feet. Okay, it's going to be fun. Why should we practise dribbling? Well, it's a really challenging skill and we have to use lots of body parts together with all sorts of thinking and planning. And we have to practise using just the right amount of strength or force to make the ball bounce back up, but not so high that it shoots away. It requires us to consistently and repeatedly do the same action. And that helps us to learn movement patterns. When we're using our feet, we need to shift our balance, we need to know exactly which part of our foot to use to dribble the ball, and how hard or soft. To kick lots of games that we do need these consistent movement patterns and strength. For example, football, dancing or basketball. For today's lesson, you're going to need a small bouncy ball, such as a tennis ball, enough clear space around you and a medium-sized ball, such as a football. Okay, when you're ready, restart the video. We're going to work on hand-to-hand bouncing. So I want you to hold your bouncy ball in one hand, bounce it on the floor in front of you and catch it with the other hand. Okay? So right hand bounces, left hand catches. Left hand bounces, right hand catches. Okay? Try and do this over and over and see how many times you can catch the ball without dropping it in a set amount of time. Pause now to have a go. For our next activity, we're going to do basketball dribbling but we're going to use a small ball. If you struggle, you can use a bigger ball. Okay? So hold the ball in your one hand, your tennis ball or your bouncy ball, bounce it on the floor in front of you, and then hit it with your flat palm. Keep doing this over and over without catching it. You can ask an adult to time you and see how many bounces you can do in 30 seconds. You can also try walking and bouncing at the same time. Bounce, hit, hit. So pause the video to have a go. For our last activity, we're going to be using our football to dribble. Okay, so stand with the football in front of your feet, run from one spot to the other, kicking the ball as you go. You can try to kick the ball just enough ahead of you to easily run to it and kick it again and not so it rolls too far away. Now you pause the video and you have a go. There are lots of things that we can do to make these activities harder or easier. To make it easier, we can use a much bigger ball, or we can make it much slower so that we can be accurate. We can pause in between to make it harder. We could dribble the ball around an obstacle course, for example, or what you could do is try and increase your score by one for each activity.
